LDDB folks.... I am in the process of selling off approximately 850 LD's and want to be sure I handle them properly so they arrive in the same condition I mail them. Can you offer cost/time effective suggestions for proper packaging? Any "HOW TO" articles? The main tip I know is to remove the disc from their sleeves to eliminate split jacket seams. How about reducing jammed corners? So far most of what I have sold have been still in factory shrink wrap, so just throw in a box with proper newspaper filler and they have made it half way around the world without issue. Now that i am getting to open discs and single discs with flimsier jackets, I am concerned. Thanks. |

You can get the Record mailers and built them up from the inside out. I put 2 layers of cardboard, 1 layer of bubble wrap, Laserdisc, 1 layer of bubblewrap, and 2more layers of cardboard. I have mailed over 2k laserdiscs and never have had one damaged. You need to fit the cardboard to the size of the disc though. Will keep it straight. You can always then take that and put cardboard on the outside of the Record mailer as well and support the corners. It will usually weight right around 2 or 3 lbs, cost you 3.08 in postage and another 50 cents for the mailer. You can get it done for under 4 bucks if you want to keep the weight down. Shipping media is the way to go. As for the size of the record mailer, it should be able to go up to 1 or 11/2 inches. Put just build it up from the inside out. If you get really paranoid you can then put that inside another box, a 13 inch pizza box is usually pretty good as they are about 1 1/2 inches tall. Will fit right in, put paper around it and there you go. Perfect packing! As to taking the disc out. I have two minds of this. If you pack the disc tight there will be no shifting in the box. When you pack the disc outside of the jacket you have a 3 or so MM empty space in the laserdisc jacket now. You need to put a cardboard piece in there the size of the jacket so that does not get squished as well and split the jacket anyway. Yes, I am paranoid about the whole thing. |

For the record, here are the boxes I have been using... my only concern is that the corners on some of the flimsier LD's are at risk of corner jams. http://www.uline.com/Product/Detail/S-4 ... ated-Boxes |

Build up the boxes and ship them tight. That way the corners are protected. I would put a box inside of that box or get smaller boxes for one or two discs. To much room for wiggle room there! |

The second picture is not what you do on its self. Do not put two pieces of plastic between the discs. Bad seller. I do not take the disc out of the jacket because there is no movement when packed like this. Record Mailer ![]() Do not mail it out with just this ![]() 4 12 by 12 pieces of cardboard, 2 12 by 12 pieces of bubble wrap and the disc in the middle ![]() Sides do not overlap - 1 inch tall. 2 to 3 lbs

I usually just throw mine in a cardboard box and hope that it makes it there in one piece in all seriousness, I think the lengths you go to are a little extreme. i think something to protect the corners is all the extra padding that it needs. if there were metal fasteners that could be stuck on the corners to prevent crumpling, I think that'd be enough. Im not worried about it bending, unless your mailman just hates you (saw a program where the mailman was caught throwing a guys monitor over his fence) |

When you are selling discs for me over 20 bucks, there is no such thing as extreme. I get the slipsheets for free |

Where do you get your LP/LD mailers? Didn't see them at Uline. How about the 12x12 cardboard? I don't think it's extreme... looks really nice and secure. Honestly, I charge for the packing material anyway, so I'd rather ship like that by default and have someone say they want to risk it with cheaper packaging. |

hope this works, these guys are cheap and good. http://www.ebay.com/itm/300394197689 I have spent probably 500 bucks on their stuff and it is always top notch. I then just get slip sheets from wherever I can find them and cut them to fit. Works great. |

Extreme packaging is subjective..... Receive a cracked disc in the mail and it gives you great perspective ! Big believer in double boxing just to be extra cautious ........ |

if you pack it to good then the mail-workers will just have a competion on who can brake it =) I actually recieved a record once in a bubble-envelope, and it was in perfect condition. I have also recieved a well packed package that looked like it have been run over by a forklift, the post office just hand it over to me as it was nothing wrong with the package. A guy that worked in the 90s at the swedish post office said that if a package had the handle with care/glass then they just throwed it harder in the bins. |

Don't put 'fragile', 'handle w/care', 'do not bend' etc... on your packages. I learned this hard lesson from lots of DESTROYED vinyl. |
