Found this auction on ebay for Matrix H/K laserdisc. Auction went up to $859 USD. Who da fock bids such ludacris amount $$$ for a laserdisc? Some people seem to be veeeeeery mental when it comes to auction bidding!? Looks like there are enough private collectors who don't have issues spending that kind on money on discs |

I've seen worse. Like when I saw a Japanese DTS LD of Independence Day, pop up on ebay once. Sold for $1400+ Some people just like buying expensive s**t! Hell, I watched that one documentary, Adjust Your Tracking, which is about VHS collectors. There was a whole segment on how this one crazy, rare, unobtainable tape called Tales from the Quadead Zone went for nearly $700 on Ebay. And there one collector who said that that wasn't enough!!! |

There's over 3.5 hours time left still on that Matrix auction so plenty of time for it to rise further!  Never understood the mania about Hong Kong LDs though as the covers are usually spoiled by all that writing, made of inferior flimsy material compared to Japanese sleeves and often suffer from foxing (brown stains for anyone who hasn't heard of that term) due to the high humidity. Add to this Cantonese subtitles in the picture and one or more audio channels devoted to some other language and it's not much of a catch. Bear in mind this is not even that late a LD release on the overall scheme of things - 1999. I'd be interested to see what the same bidders would bid for a 2001 Japanese title which is many times rarer and harder to locate. Also most examples that turn up on Ebay are ex-rentals so very rough specimens. Just because there is big money involved doesn't mean you end up with a silk purse.....it might be more like a pig's ear by the time you get it, especially this one described by the seller as 'cover in good condition: bent corners, ring marks and removeable sticker'! And remember folks, as the seller points out 'This is an outstanding collector's out-of-print LD. Full screen format.' Well I though ALL LDs were out of print in 2018. |

YOU have a better chance of developing cancer than this Kuraray pressing has of developing rot. |

If you can find it cheaper then wait until it comes up cheaper, I've had a lot of lowball offers on ebay recently. Asking 1500 for an item that sells for 1100 and they lowball me for 500. If you want something cheap then look or hunt it out like other sellers, re-sellers or collectors who turn into sellers when they find that one rock that they buff into a glass bead. And if there were a case of those matrix discs then get it for a few bucks or sell it for a few buck, value is only what 2 people are willing to pay. |

Are the LDs that have a hole for showing the disc on the back common? I never saw that before even on HK discs. Would it be just because its the Matrix?

The first person to bid was also the winner - quite a common trend on Ebay. First bid is to stop anyone else trying to cut a private sale outside of Ebay before anyone else bids. First bidder ultimately drove the price up almost all the way to the top. I suspect if they had held back from out bidding the others the final price would have been lower. Interesting auction to watch the dynamics of what happens. |
