At $200 a copy it better be something special. Well that, and a pre-cert release would not have a BBFC rating on it.

It’s weird how this stuff works out. Last year A Muppet Christmas Carol had the most boring song in it “restored” for the Bluray. It’s on the standard VHS/LD, but they still managed to lose the negative for ages. I’ve never seen the movie without it so I never knew it was missing from some formats (remastered DVD I think) so I had to read the article twice at first not understanding what they were talking about. I guess they didn’t want the song in the theatrical version so they cut it but at the time the deal was to not cut the home video. Because of this high quality footage of that scene was lost...but not totally lost as they just somehow located a negative or something. https://www.bbc.com/news/amp/entertainm ... s-55232499

Not that anyone here would care, but upon checking some "vintage p0rn" sites it turns out not only did a number of 80s and 90s adult film titles that got an LD release never get a DVD or blu-ray release, but some LD releases run longer (no pun intended) than their DVD release. Two that I've come across that are longer (again, no pun intended): https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/25101/Z0190/Secretshttps://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/53144/AVIV-0056/ShameNo, I have no idea what content in said films make them longer than the subsequent releases. As for the ones that didn't get a DVD or blu-ray release, I can only imagine that those were such low budget and produced in a matter of days (and shot on video--Betacam or worse) that no one really kept the master tapes in any good shape over the years. Nor did they think there would be any interest in them years after the release. Some of the unreleased to DVD movies I had (like Dripping With Desire and Roxy) I sold on ebay for a hell of a lot more than I paid for them or intended to get for them. I guess there is somewhat of a demand for 80s and 90s p0rn.

Theatrical VS LD...
Saw the movie Where's Poppa in the theaters in the early 1970's. Bought the LD in the late 1990's and I noticed the ending was different. Why, says Wikipedia:
"In regards to the VHS releases of "WHERE'S POPPA?": The KEY VIDEO release was the theatrical version -- which had its original ending changed to a more 'sedate' finish. The later MGM Home Video release VHS had the original ending restored where Gordon Hocheiser ends up in the bed with his mother. Ergo, viewers have their choice of which version they prefer to watch".
Two things IMDb says:
"Home video version features a different ending, showing a defeated George Segal climbing in bed with his mother and telling her: "Here's Poppa!"
Also:
"The old KEY VIDEO release (KEY was a division of CBS/Fox Video) had the theatrical ending, which had been altered before release as being too potent for audiences of 1970. However, the later MGM VHS release had the original ending restored where George Segal climbs into bed with Ruth Gordon at the end while the employee of the senior citizens home looks on in disbelief as the door shuts behind Segal. If you liked the altered theatrical ending find the KEY release from the 1980s, but if you prefer the original ending find the MGM tape. NOTE that I don't know what ending is on the DVD; I don't have it and haven't seen it."
What I remember was that when the LD release was being made, someone grab the wrong reel with the extended version by mistake. I don't know about the Beta/VHS/DVD/BR releases...
Edit: How do I add my Avatar?..

This one too: Godfather, The: The Epic 1901-1959 (1990) [PILF-1147]The end had the same ending as the book, where Kay is saying a prayer for Michael at the candles. I can't remember if it was in the Trilogy as I watched it over 5 years ago now. I still own it but can't remember that scene from the films or the trilogy, but I may be wrong.

The Godfather Epic/Saga (two different editions, one comprises Godfather I and II in chronological order, the other comprises the entire trilogy), both have been released digitally (sort of) and in HD. Most recently they were available on the HBO and Cinemax streaming services. I forget which is the one that comprises part I and II. I watched that on Cinemax a couple of years back in one sitting, all 7.5 hours of it. I have both laserdisc sets or Epic and Saga which are great except for the parts in Italian have Japanese subtitles and no English.
