Substance posted that he bought the new bluray with 3 versions of the film and I believe this is one of them.

Thanks for verifying that. Removed.

I also found out that Shout Factory will be released the Unrated version of Candyman (1992) LD 14073 on Blu-ray so that will also be removed from the list.

Star Trek I: The Motion Picture (1979) (Uncut) [LV 8858-2A]
This version of Star Trek the Motion Picture hasn't been released on DVD or Bluray to my knowledge.

Man, 1983. That’s pretty early. I guess I’ve never seen that version before. Maybe the extra footage will transform it from something that is simply boring into something amazing and boring.

I assume that was released on VHS as well? I think I owned that one and only seen it that way.

Speaking of VHS, I'm also working on a list VHS releases that also contain deleted, extended, & alternate footage that were never digitally released on DVD/Blu-ray etc. I have 42 titles and 1 Betamax release so for and am currently waiting for VHS Collectors forum to be restored so I can post it there.

For ex.
Jaws 2 (1978) - the 1979 Brazilian CIC Video release contains 9 minutes of deleted and extended scenes.

I did some more reading and apparently this was done for ABC television at first and then released on home video. I guess the additional elements look pretty rough (As rough as extended The Abyss? Or even rougher, I wonder.) which is probably fine for broadcast or early LD but if higher quality elements aren't easily available then a DVD or BR would be better off without them. You don't want a Metropolis* thing going on when the additions probably don't mean anything anyway. They probably only did it to add more advertising. The movie isn't exactly a brisk walk even without the extra 12 min.

There must be a Star Trek maniac here who already has this info at their fingertips. I'm barely more than a punter in the scheme of Trek fandom. I only have the box set version of this.

Yes the Japanese is the same, I'm sure also on VHD too.
I own the US one and just remembered going through my collection.

I personally like the film, but I have read that some hate it.
Don't know if the extra adds anything to the story but I do remember seeing bits and pieces back in the day when on TV.

If I remember correctly, it just has a bunch of deleted scenes cut back into the movie, one of which includes the famous (or rather, infamous) Kirk spacewalk sequence with unfinished effects - which are conveniently hidden by the pan&scan treatment.

Unlike the Director's Edition which is actually properly edited.

Thats the scene I remember most when on TV, Kirk getting Spock and taking to him that was all cut from the theater and DC version.

On another note, from what I've read the only way to get the DC is the standard DVD as the extra effects were done in standard def
and they can't upgrade them? Sounds odd but I guess they know best.

Yeah, Paramount got stingy and only budgeted the effects crew to do the new CGI effects in SD. Not only that but apparently they don't even have the original files anymore so if they wanted to update the DE to HD, they'd have to do the new effects from scratch.

Correct - the Director's Cut was completed in SD Video. They "could" recreate the Directors Cut in HD, but they would have to start over. This is the same reason why DS9 and VOY haven't been issued on BD. While both were shot on film, all of the effects were done in SD. What they did for TNG was so costly, they are hard pressed to recoup their investment in giving DS9 and VOY the same treatment.

Post subject:  Re: Deleted Extended & Alternate footage from Certain Laserd

Possibly the entire fandom couldn't fund the cost even if they bought multiples but whose to say. It would be one hell of a long shot thought but not one that they can fully believe in recouping their invest back.
