I've been attempting to sell my South Park Laserdisc for a month now. 4 listings, no takers. A few watchers( this is all through ebay) and even listed it here on the LDDB. What time do you guys think is the best time to list discs for sale on either?

Well I think the problem we have here is price. Though you are the lowest seller on lddb.com, but its still expensive. Its going to take awhile to find a buyer willing to pay that much for one movie. It may very well be worth so much. I suppose this movie is rare or something, but there are probably few willing to pay so much, especially for South Park. Expensive, rare discs appeal to few, and their value can be widely variable. Looking back at eBay sales for an entire year, there is just not a lot of data to really make an opinion of what the value of this disc is. You would have better luck on eBay selling it as a Buy it Now or Best offer at that price instead of starting an auction at 99. In the past 90 days you have relisted the movie 2 times at 99, and one person listed the movie at 34.95. That price was low enough to get people interested, then they got competitive. It ended up selling for $78.77. A third listed for $250 BIN, and that also didn't fly. Either start an auction low to get people interested, and take that chance of selling it for less money, or put it at what you want BIN on ebay, and be prepared to wait the long haul. My advice, given the wide variation at what this movie has been listed at, and what it has actually sold for you're better off doing a low auction to get people interested. Thats probably not what you want to hear, but I don't think its a timing thing.

Out of curiousity, besides the fact its a laserdisc, is there something special about the LD cut vs. the DVD or BD cuts?

No differences, it was merely a short printed release of a movie from the end of Laserdisc's lifetime.

Selling is always tricky.

I advise patience ...
It is a collectible title....
It will sell eventually.
Your Ebay listing was the lowest price I have ever seen one offered for.
Good luck !

Hello flcl4evr, jamisonia, rein-o & firehorse_44,

Is there really a good time to sell laserdisc's?

I suppose January and February are difficult months to sell for a number of reasons, but for serious or the impulsive LD collector not so.
The fact that a good number of people enjoy being indoors, watching their movies and such in the winter and early spring months has some truth.

South park is one of those you ''either love it or hate titles,'' which in most cases would not draw much attention. . . . . . The bottom line I guess is that it's all subjective.

Personally I would love to purchase many Laserdisc's right now, but have other priorities to complete first.

Is there anyone on this forum who wants South Park on LD, you never know someone may read your post and contact you and purchase from you.

I hope that you are able to sell this title soon

Sincere Regards

I've often heard sellers telling me the winter time was the best for selling laserdiscs.
Their logic was that you will be indoors more during the winter and therefore have more time to spend surfing for laserdiscs!

Personally I don't think it makes much different. If it is a desirable title it will sell at any time of year.

I often see a glut of Christmas orientated music titles listed on Ebay in December. Clearly someone is hoping the festive season will trigger some purchases and it may well work as it is certainly more sensible to list those in December than say June!

I posted one that started at 34.95 and it generated a lot of excitement. I think this is a better method.

January is not such a bad period.
$ugu$ has just sold his 6th Day for a crazy price ...

Just have some patience.
And put it on LDDB, not on ebay.

I don't think the time of the year really matters much, just how badly a collector wants a title.
The other side of the coin is finding the collector; Laserdisc is now a niche market and the world economy is not doing so well.

The advice jamisonia gave is probably the best; start at a lower price and see if you can get a bidding war going.
Stay well.

I would love to own a copy of South Park, it just costs too much.

Just sold mine for 46. I paid less than a dollar for it, so I'm not too bummed
