This is a good example of excessive pricing on a Karaoke LD from a Japanese seller - looking over $2000 for 1 disc:

Just to clarify these particular LDs are so common and easy to obtain eyou can pickup large bundles for a few dollars each direct from Japan.

I guess the expected high value is on the fact that it's a ZARD Karaoke disc?

Some people just want to collect anything related to their favorite singers.
Someone yesterday bought an old DVD R1 of Austin Powers 2 from me, was going to give him Austin Powers 1 for free as a bundle but after offering he:

1/ Has no region-free DVD Player (can't play them)
2/ Only bought for the Madonna music video.

So he might even buy some Madonna LDs from me even though he doesn't plan to ever own a LD Player.

Go figure!

Those particular Karaoke discs are perhaps the most boring I have ever seen. I bought a batch of them several years ago and was really disapppointed. The original artist is not featured in either video or audio which is par for the course for most Karaoke discs, but the visuals just seem completely random and have nothing to do with the music or any artist! Total waste of money so in my opinion this is worthless.

I do agree that the scalpers spoil buying for everyone. It happens with steelbooks, comic etc. I do think there are valid reasons why some discs are hard to get or expensive.
1/ Very few pressed to begin with. Not unusual to see 300 or 500 pressed of a title. 2/ Rights issues preventing it being pressed today. 3/ Edits since on both DVD and blu-ray 4/ A studio refusing to release or renew a title on home video (The Tom and Jerry fiasco) 5/ A title banned outright (Bugs Bunny: Nip the Nips) 5/ Controversial running commentaries or ones never made available. 5/ a faulty pressing with very few good copies (Air force 1). So yes it can be expensive but most should be reasonably priced.

How can you not have a region-free DVD player in 2018? Apart from maybe some Sony models because, well, it's Sony, pretty much any DVD player can easily be hacked region free, and even blu-ray players can be hacked region free on the DVD side.

It's pretty much the first thing I do any time I get my hands on a new DVD player of any kind, too.
