Post subject:  Prototype Philips VLP laserdisc ?

Hi,

I came accross this nice Philips VLP disc which is definitely a sample.
Moreover it seems to be stuck to the plastic frame, so I wonder what was the purpose of framing, unless this is a specific storage box.

I also wanted to know whether this is still during preproduction or early production, and approximately when it was produced.
I find the large silver border nice and never saw anything like this on a LD.
Any infos welcome :)

Thanks for posting this.

If you can let us know exactly what is printed on the label it may help perhaps, can't quite make it out.

Cheers.

I remember some older post here mentioning that the first LD was not actually playable but just prototypes to show an actual physical product and start marketing it ahead of time. That would explain why it's framed.

This one looks more like a giant CD than a LD, maybe that was the point?

On the left is written VLP along with VIDEO LONG PLAY under it in small.
On the top is written NOT FOR SALE.
On the bottom is written MADE BY N.V.PHILIPS EINDHOVEN SAMPLE COPY.

Hope this helps identifying this disc !
