One of the big appeals of laserdiscs - and vinyl records for that matter - is the art and the size of the sleeve provided for it. That doesn't mean that the 12 square inch space was particularly well used all the time. For example the cover for Event Horizon Event Horizon (1997) [LV334823-WS] is just the poster but badly cropped so the titular ship is barely in the frame, no changes in the art composition whatsoever so it looks crap. Any other, better (or worse, rather) examples?

Always thought these covers were great compared to the later widescreen reissues. Taxi Driver (1976) [VLD 5920]Boy and his Dog, A (1975) [I5071]They made perfect use of the LD size and looked amazing compared to other releases. On a side note, I think its pretty cool to see the covers re-used from VHS to LD like Highlander (1986) [ID6679HB]While they could have spent some time making a cool cover it also gives that feel of advertising art that we will never actually have ever again.

Everything they made is a cover about %65 dominated with the same Discovision BS as everything else they made with a small section in the middle devoted to the actual movie. “Oh look, *theres* Jaws!” I think my favourite marque is the mid-80's Warner one with the "false" gradient.

Blade Runner: Special Edition #19 (1982) (Uncut) [CC1120L]Geez, I never even noticed that. Then again, I never looked very closely. "Hey let's redraw the poster badly so Harrison Ford and Sean Young don't look like themselves anymore!"

"Hey let's redraw the poster badly so Harrison Ford and Sean Young don't look like themselves anymore!" I always hated that cover. I took the picture from the Embassy jacket and pasted it over the Criterion "air-brushed" crap image. I also was not a fan of the "Star Trek III: Search for Spock" LaserDisc jacket - the LP jacket is MUCH cooler.

Pretty sure they could have toned it down a bit.

A couple of the Dawn of the Dead LD covers suck . . . Was going to say this German LD of Lucio Fulci's The New York Ripper, but it's a bootleg, so what can you expect? Now this one isn't a bad cover, per se: But when you compare it to the Japanese cover:

Nah, that cover is pretty bad, its like a partial page from an newspaper article. The movie is actually one of the best, other than the corny scene with the comedy music when they are cleaning up the mall the movie itself was done pretty well for a lower budget horror film.

I even hate the newer films that do that, why can't they keep it serious and not break into comedy. I guess too much will actually make people cry when they get out of the theater to see real life.
