There's also the Image discs all with commentary by Paul Mandell:

Citizen Kane (1941) [I6002]
King Kong (1933) [I6003]
Mighty Joe Young (1949) [I5032]
Hunchback of Notre Dame, The (1939) [I5034]

I don't think any of these were ever released on DVD.

Yes.

Did I not see those on the list or did you recently add them?

They were there when I originally posted the list. I've known about the Mandell commentaries for years. ;)

Perhaps two more:

Brute Force (1947) [RGL9506]
I know Criterion used a different commentary for their DVD release.

Tom Sawyer (1973) [ML101863]

Added. Thank you.

I'll have to check this out. I happen to have the LD that you speak of and the BD.

This is true, but I will not put this on the list. Here's why... There were TWO commentary tracks recorded for Highlander.

1. Director Russell Mulcahy and Producers Bill Panzer & Peter Davis, which is on the 10th Anniversary LD and various R1 DVD releases:

http://www.amazon.com/Highlander-Christ ... B00005RYL2
http://www.amazon.com/Highlander-Direct ... B001JFZ118
http://www.amazon.com/Highlander-Direct ... 0782008372
http://www.amazon.com/Highlander-Immort ... B00005RYL9

2. Director Russell Mulcahy solo, which is on the Blu-ray:

http://www.amazon.com/Highlander-Direct ... B001AQO3XS
http://www.amazon.com/Highlander-Annive ... B004CJB0AY

Since the 10th Anniversary LD's commentary track is commonly available on DVD, it's off the list. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, though.

Just remembered another one, Elite's Dawn of the Dead: Collectors CAV Box Set.

Has commentary with George Romero, Tom Savini and Michael Gornick.

The Anchor Bay Ultimate Edition DVD set has different commentary tracks on the different versions of the film. The Extended Cut in the AB release (which is the version featured in the LD Box set) has commentary by producer Richard Rubenstein.

George Romero and Tom Savini provide commentary on the Theatrical Cut DVD in the AB set, but their commentaries are separate tracks.

Updated. Thanks!

Just wanted to point out that Gornick was not on the Elite CAV Box Set commentary track, but Christine Romero is along with George and Savini. Gornick's only commentary appearances are on DVD releases of Martin (Lion's Gate) and Creepshow 2: Special Edition (Anchor Bay). Not trying to be a jerk, just correcting some info.

Thank you. However, based upon reading what you're saying here, the Elite Dawn of the Dead box set still belongs on the list, correct?

Yes it does, that Elite commentary was never ported to any other release/format.

The Special Edition Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 laserdisc has two commentary tracks, and I believe the DVD only has one. From what I understand, the DVD track is basically the two LD tracks (which feature a bunch of the cast and crew) cut and pasted together to make one track.

The back cover of the Scream laserdisc says it has commentary by director, Wes Craven, but does not mention that writer, Kevin Williamson, is also on the commentary. I've always assumed that the commentary on the DVD releases are different, because the laserdisc is the unrated director's cut while the DVD releases (all of them, I believe) are the theatrical cut. I have not confirmed that the commentaries are different, I just assume that they are because they would be commenting on different versions of the film.

The Lawnmower Man: Special Edition

This LD's commentary must be different from the one on DVD. The LD is a longer director's version while the R1 DVD only has the shorter theatrical cut.

I have no idea if the DVD commentary is simply an edit of the LD commentary, or a totally different recording. (I haven't actually listened to the LD commentary yet, and don't have the DVD to compare.)

I have the LD, too. I will do an A/B comparison with the DVD, which I have to check out from the library.

I don't see Tales From the Hood on the list. It has a track with director Rusty Cundieff that is not on the long OOP HBO DVD.
