I have noticed when rewinding LDs it creates some beautiful colourful visual effects. The rewind goes so quickly that it's difficult to appreciate without recording it and then taking individuals frames from the recording. I'm curious, are these effects consistent between players?

Are you doing this with a CAV or CLV disc?

If it's with a CLV disc, then this is most likely happening because your player doesn't have digital frame memory for pausing or properly scanning a CLV disc.

I can remember reading about 20 years ago, a guy returned a rental DVD and told the clerk " I forgot to rewind it". He said the clerk got pissed because of this...

CLV. I haven't tried it with CAV.
My player is a Mitsubishi M-V7010.

Looks like a clone of the CLD-2070, which doesn't have digital memory

I tested a disc with CLV side 1 and CAV side 2. The CLV side produced the distorted effect when rewinding and fast-forwarding but the CAV side did not.

Thank you for your insight.
