Okay, I was looking at the Laser Rot Page, and noticed the Company "Kuraray" was on it. Next, I noticed that they manufactured Street Fighter The Movie (Yes, I actually enjoy that movie, so what?! |

Only some from a specific company are usually bad. I have several from even Sony DADC that are rot free, and they are notorious for having laser rot in their discs |

yeah just because its an infamous company doesnt mean there all bad, although i often wonder what the deal was with why some titles are worse than others, i mean whats the deal with heavy metal? why did they cheap out with the glue on some discs and not on others? |

i was wondering whether storage temperature could have an effect on how quickly rot manifests itself it at all, reason being i have only recently re enstaited my laserdisc player into my system, my discs have been in storage in the loft for approx 5 years were it can get pretty cold ( in british terms anyway) i have a copy of contact which has a very bad rep for being a rotter, to my relief when i check it,it appears just fine, hense my question about temperature, just a thought? |

Well, if I am understand correctly, "laser rot" is basically oxidation of the aluminum layer of an LD. In other words, corrosion. If I remember my Navy corrosion training properly, cold temperatures slow down the rate of corrosion more so than warm temperatures. So theoretically colder is better for deflecting laser rot than warm temps. |

Most of those plants, at one time or another, had a bad run of discs, leading to a rot report. The whole reason that rot reports are maintained by title is so that you can have a look to see whether that particular pressing is likely to be good or bad. Kuraray, for example, is known for the generally good quality of its pressings, while Sony DADC USA is known for an abnormally large number of bad ones, but each plant made some good discs & some not so good. |
