I've learned a few things while visiting this forum and site. But I didn't fully understand what Laser Rot is. I was looking at my collection, picked up Hell Comes To Frogtown and saw this. Is this what you mean by Laser Rot? Attachment:

I'm not sure. I have the same thing on my Barbarians Laserdisc, but it plays just fine. |

i think to answer your question though, 'laser rot' is generally something that you can't actually see on the disc, but it causes playback problems. mostly artifacts and 'snow' in the picture, and it causes audio playback problems as well. my copy of The Cable Guy is almost unwatchable at the beginning of the second side, as the audio is really garbled and the video is very bad during the same part too. however, the disc itself looks fine. your disc almost looks more like its gotten water damage somewhere. i've never seen that before either. |

Ok. Thanks. I think I have a few disks like that. (Scanners is coming to mind. Robocop skips after 20 mins on side 1 and can't play side 2 at al cause it just skips right thru it. Might not be laserot but is a problem) I'm getting ready to watch my entire collection. (Theres atleast 30 films I've have never seen before) and see if theres any problems with them. It's odd that water damage will look like that but, even though I've been collecting since '98, I'm still new to the scene. |

I didn't mean that what your disc has is definitely water damage, it just appears to be similar to other water-damaged stuff i've seen before. just a possibility. enjoy watching your collection! |

Hi Everyone, What you see in these pictures is a manufacturing defect which seems to be a strange form of oxidation. I have only seen this type of visible defect on products from PDO UK. It seems to be a problem unique to that manufacturing plant, as I have seen it on no discs from anywhere else. I too have seen it on copies of Hell Comes to Frogtown and The Barbarians, but I was able to find "clean" copies of both of these titles which play fine. The worst I have ever seen was on a copy of Saigon Commandos, which was also made at PDO UK. Sometimes this defect affects playback like laser rot, and sometimes it does not. That has been my experience with it. David |

I also have two discs that look like that. Both manufactured at PDO UK. One plays fine the other has lots of distortion in the digital audio while the picture has errors but still can be watched. |
