| Post subject: | how to sell a large collection? |
Hello all - I just found this site and forum today, and I'm hoping you can help me with this. I have a collection of between 400 and 500 laserdiscs that I want to get rid of, and I've never been sure what to do with them. I hate to even use that term "get rid of" - I used to love the format, and was obsessed with them. I even sought out the sales and bought a lot of them cheap in the last days of the format when they were being discontinued. But the reality is that I never watch them any more. I have a lot of DVDs now, and between live TV, the DVDs, and my DVR (not to mention the internet), I just don't have time for the old laserdiscs. What I'd really like to do is just sell the whole collection all at once to someone local who can pick them up. (I live in Long Beach, CA.) I really don't want all the bother of selling them one-by-one. I figure the easiest way to do this is to just set a low per-disc amount, and this should average out to a good deal for the buyer because some will be rare and valuable, and some common and not valuable. I was thinking of maybe $2 per disc - does that sound reasonable? Should it be higher, lower? (It boggles my mind to think that I probably spent about $10,000 on them originally!) I don't have a list of titles compiled yet - I suppose that's my first step. The discs are stored in particle board rectangles and cubes that are stacked four high. Even though I remember how much work it was to put them all together with glue and nails, I suppose I'll just give them away with the discs - they're just taking up a lot of valuable space in the walk-in closet in my master bedroom right now. Anyway, I'd appreciate any advice you might have for me about the best way to proceed with all this. |

Well that would mean you'd be selling them for 800 - 1000 and that's a hard sell (especially if someone only wants a few of the discs). You'd probably have better luck breaking them up into relevant sets (if not just full one by one). |

$2 per disc is very reasonable in my opinion, but I agree with the previous post about breaking them up a little into sets. If you had a list, I'm sure people could give input on your grouping strategy. |

Actually you might be lucky, send me a list of what you have and I might go what you are asking. I do live close by, in Riverside. Chris |

I'll get working on the list. Chris, that would be great if it works out that you want to take them. If it doesn't work out, then I'll work on the grouping strategy. |
