It is almost impossible to find a good used analog tv in my town. My 10 year old analog set still works but the big question is if i plug a laserdisc player into a LED/LCD or Plasmas which are getting harder to find will the picture look as good as my analog set or will it be awful? |

On my 52' Bravia LCD in my basement, it looks awful. Watchable awful, but still awful. I only use it for watching my discs with AC-3 surround sound |

There's been a few threads on how to get the best possible picture quality on HDTVs here which might have some good tips for you. In general analog sets will produce a better LD picture than digital. Screen size and viewing distance also are a big factor. On a 42" LCD from 12 feet away laserdiscs look nearly indistinguishable from DVDs. |

Nothing on Craigslist? Just go to the corresponding CL page for your area and type in "WEGA" I've always found quite a few no matter where I look. |

i have a 42" 1080p Philips LCD. i have it connected directly from my DVL-90 with an S-Video cable, and honestly, all of my LDs look just as good as dvd (if the original transfer was good that is). i sit about 5-6 ft away from the screen. i've never had any problems with it, or any LDs that are noticeably bad. the only time there is a problem with my picture quality is if there is laser rot, or if the original transfer was bad (such as a lot of non-laser-rot artifacts, etc). That said, the picture quality on my DVL-90 looks a lot better than my old V2600 did when i had it connected directly with component cables instead of s-video. i've watched Jurassic Park on each player, same tv, and the DVL-90 with s-video is exceptionally better. its not blu-ray, but its every bit as good as standard dvd. |

However I did lug my first LD-player to a friend's house so we could watch Fantasia and I was really surprised at how "good" it looked under those conditions. |

Do you have the "Video Essentials" calibration LD? Have you read the article on watching LD in the digital age? http://www.mindspring.com/~laserguru/digitalage.html There are a number of people on this forum (as well as the AVS forum) who can help get you squared away with a modern display so have fun shopping... |
