I know I've seen threads about most expensive discs, newest discs, best looking discs, sounding discs, etc.....but my question for you guys is, what is your personal favorite disc? Mine's Mononoke Hime. It looks fantastic, sounds fantastic, and even though I don't understand a lick of japanese, I still really love to watch it.

hmmm.. my favorite individual is probably the Terminator 2: Judgment Day: Special Collection (1991) [PILF-1800]... but i like having the full set of the T2 special edition releases, with the Silver, Gold, Blue and Red covers. other favorites include the Criterion Bond movies, ( From Russia with Love: Special Edition #131 (1963) [CC1266L], Dr. No: Special Edition #124 (1962) [CC1234L], and Goldfinger: Special Edition #132 (1964) [CC1267L]). The Japanese version of blade is pretty cool too. I also have a copy of Aliens, Dragons, Monsters and Me (1991) [LVD9213] that is supposedly signed by Ray Harryhausen, but i don't know if it is authentic or not. If it is though, pretty awesome. That guy is a legend.

How can you choose which of your children is your favorite? I have so many, but the first one that came to mind is Gettysburg: Special Edition. I like the movie a lot, even though the transfer on this version is quite crappy. The extras make the box set pretty special. Another that comes to mind is the Full Frame LD of Lady and the Tramp which is a transfer of the rare and once thought lost Academy Ratio version of the movie. For some reason, Disney fails to put this version on any of the DVD and Blu-ray releases of the movie (they've had three chances now!) So the only ways to get it are the 1998 Full Frame LD or the VHS release from the same year.

I am quite frustrated with Disney; it seems that their films are like a box of chocolates...

Two versions were made. The 2.55:1 CinemaScope version and the 1.37:1 Academy Ratio version (just in case Widescreen cinema never caught on.) The Academy ratio version was never widely circulated and thought lost for years until they released the Full Frame LD (and the VHS re-release) in 1998 using the AR version for the transfer. This review of the Platinum Edition DVD (which doesn't feature the AR version) gives a good run down on the AR version of the movie: Lady and the Tramp Platinum DVD 2006

Thats a easy question, without doubt: ONCE WERE WARRIORS - Criterion Collection. I watched this Disc over and over, both disc and movie have a special meaning to me, I´d rather sell any other Disc before this one.

I've been in love with this film and Mitchum since being blown away at a film noir festival many years ago. (one of my best ever film experiences, this and an hour later Touch of Evil) As a lifelong noir enthusiast of both film and literature, this is to me the definitive film noir in every way. Well done! Out of those I own, it would come between the Star Wars Special Edition box (my first LD, and the one I always wanted as a kid) and my Bond LDs (for bringing back the way looked and sounded in my childhood).

I think my favorite LD is probably Nausicaa of the Vally of Wind. This disc is the reason I got into LD in the first place back in 92 since its my favorite movie of all time and it was unavailable in the US back then.
This disc is mono, has no chapters, and the framing is...weird, but I recently watched it again since the Bluray came out and I wanted to compare...and I think I prefer the LD, actually. The color is probably less correct (the BR looks closer to cels and the art books I have for the movie) but I prefer it. It's sort of more blue-green in areas that are more blue on the BR. Also, the 3:2 pull down masks one or two missing frame jumps that the BR exposes.
And of course the cover is much better. Also, the World Wildlife Fund logo is missing from the BR (at least the US BR).
