Mitsubishi makes an awesome product. I have the rear projector and love the picture. Lots of control as well. Sound isnt the best but what the heck, you can fix that.

Mitsubishi does make an excellent tv. My parents have a 15-20 year old rear projection and its still kicking.

They are pretty cheap compared to other stuff as well.

any idea why there'd be no sound coming from my speakers on my set? it's not muted and the speakers are set to on and I can control the volume

Can you adjust the volume in the menu? There is usually a place where you can set everything up, check in there and make sure the volume isnt turned down. That could do it.

Well, at least you tried the format out. That's better than most people out there who say "LD sucks" without even seeing one in action.

At the very least, there's one less person I have to deal with on Ebay auctions! :D

if I could afford it, I would just buy film prints. at least with those, you know what you're gonna get.

projo tvs have the best refresh rate. CRT projos can still produce good picture from LDs. But if you are looking to buy something new, you should not look at anything other than plasma tvs. I see bunch of Pioneer plasmas on craiglist for real cheap. 6 year old pioneer, runco and vidikron plasmas are still superior than anything out there. The improved picture quality will be noticed not only on LDs but all other sources as well.

It seems like people here are getting a bit touchy. I don't get the hostility aimed at gbpxl. It's perfectly understandable that for some LaserDiscs are too outdated to deal with in today's Hi-Def world. It takes a lot of effort to make LDs look acceptable on a large screen LCD.

For myself, I've made an effort with LaserDiscs because I own movies in that format that aren't available on DVD or BD (yet). I also already invested heavily in the player and discs back in the early '90s, when LDs were the best quality available. It's not the same as someone who is getting into the format for the first time these days.

I hope my post wasn't taken as any hostility. It certainly wasn't meant that way. It seems that most of the responses are trying to help isolate the problem he had with that particular disc. But if my post was taken that way, then I apologize gbpxl, I certainly didn't intend it to be taken that way.

I also have a projected Mitsubishi. The Diamond 65" and have had stunning results with laserdiscs. All together for reciever, tv, speakers, and player I have probably spent less than 1700.00 total. My point was and is that it doesn't take a "high-end" set up to reproduce laserdiscs at DVD levels.

All I keep seeing is Darth Vader stumbling around, in very crisp HD, screaming "Nooooooooo!"

well, I'll be honest the Sharp is not quite as mind blowing as I had expected it to be, but the more I thought about it, I realized how many times I've had to ask myself whether something was HD or not (on any TV, not just mine) and to me that just says a lot about Blu Ray and High Def in general. The screen size and light weight was what was most important to me and I like that I can stream Netflix without anything extra needed.

What is you verdict on LD? or  ?
If you are finished with LD what discs do you have for sale?
