Hello everyone. Is there a big difference between a DD and a good capture card? I am using a CLD-R7G player, an AJA LHe+ card and a Roland audio card to capture digital audio. Will I be able to get a better result with DD?
Does the DD decoder have comb filter and noise reduction? Or is it not required for the raw signal?
Also I read that DD is more suitable for PAL and not so much for NTSC. Is this true?

DD is really more of an archive tool. It’s the tunneling electron microscope of capture systems. It’s a PITA for most people and absolutely not worth the hassle in most cases. It was created to archive legitimately rare or one of a kind discs. It’s not for punters.

If what you have is truly special and you want to saved for all eternity for the betterment of man, then go with the DD. If there are three copies of what you have on eBay right now and two versions on YouTube then just use whatever.

From what I’ve seen the quality is significantly better but an awful lot that gets uploaded is just people doing test captures. I think the amount of work and time involved puts people off using the system regularly for full discs.

A high quality traditional capture that exists is a lot better than a pristine capture that never got made because it was too much of a chore.

It would be nice to have a DD captured Flying Luna Clipper...

I was happy with a stand alone DVD recorder, very easy and your discs look just like the LD, as long as your LD player is of good quality.
Then once on a DVD you can download to your computer.
