Posting questions and also open for comments on this title.

So The Alamo was released in an uncut roadshow release on 3 versions of LD, one had AC-3 and one was a Japanese release

Alamo, The (1960) (Uncut) [ML106354]

Alamo, The (1960) (Uncut) [ML102581]

It seems that all versions have the surround but only the one USA release has the AC-3 surround.

My question here is from my searching I can't find any other release of this extended cut or any planned release.
I wonder if this is due to the poor quality of the found extended footage and they would end up spending
way too much to enhance this footage versus the cost they will make when releasing this on something like Bluray?

I have the Japanese box set in the mail as I haven't seen this film in years if I actually have seen it at all.
Not the biggest John Wayne fan but will deal, may also get my living room setup finally to watch on a projector

I've seen some posts elsewhere along the lines that some of the film elements are now in such poor condition that it will probably never be released as the "full" version again. It must be those cut scenes added back into the LD (and some VHS?) releases they're talking about.

Funny you should post about this now, I also have the Japanese version on the way. Very little extra appeal to having AC3 on a film like this; even more so at the prices that version seems to go for.

This is on my wishlist too, if anyone wants to post a review that would be great! Not a huge Wayne fan either, but this is one that was always worth watching, and it is odd that the extended footage hasn't made its way into DVD, etc., as that format's birth was only a few years after this box set.

I'll try to do a review when I get it but after 2 years still don't have my living room setup to watch movies, have a smaller set with player in living room and
TV in dining room so I can screen stuff.

I had the '92 box set many years ago and watched it back in 2010. Quality wise it was quite good from what I remember. It's a very long, generic Wayne feature. Nowhere near his masterpieces like The Man Who Shot Liberty Wallace or Stagecoach but for those looking for an amusing epic it should certainly be worth a watch. Give your Laserdisc player a workout! :)

I have wondered if the later pressing done by Kurray would have been the best one technically.

Got this in the mail today, looks great but I was only able to scan through 20 or so minutes on the first side.
The TV I'm using is a very old LED Sony set from 2010 and its not that great to be honest, so I won't be able to do a real review
but the colors aren't as bad as pictures I've seen on the web of the cut scenes, they look worse in pics than watching it.
