Post subject:  Can framing an LD damage the disc and/or case?

Hi, I bought some vinyl record frames from Amazon and they are compatible with LD, too. My main concern is that the frame latches that hold the cover on are kind of tight and I'm afraid that might put pressure on the disc or case, which will cause damage. Has anyone framed a vinyl or LD and had it get damaged or am I just being stupid paranoid?

Don't take this as a bash.

If you really plan on hanging a disc then you really aren't ever going to play the disc so then it sort of answers your last question about being stupid paranoid.

You could take the disc out and just hang the sleeve, but then if you really care about the disc why would you hang it when it could be
on a shelf to watch/play.

Unless you really plan to remove the disc from the frame every time you plan to watch said disc.

But to answer if this will get damaged, sorry I have never done this as I do watch my discs.

If you're worried about damage you could use something like a large book display stand instead, the type that sit on a shelf or whatever.

I would never frame a disc unless it was already junk. Honestly, I have thousands of records and LDs and have never seriously considering framing any of them but if I were to frame and LD I would make sure it was already junk. It can’t be as good for it as proper storage is.

No. Assuming you bought a good product from Amazon. If it could damage the vinyl or LD there would be many complaints from purchasers.
It does however appear they aren't airtight so you may have to worry about condensation. On that head you could wrap the LD in film plastic before mounting it.

I frame tee shirts that I love the graphics on and are too trashed or too small to wear.

Framing watchable LDs does seem wrong to me as well..if you feel like watching em you got to go to a lot of trouble to get them out of the frame.

I'd like a "now playing" display stand or something to display the LD cover I'm watching or want to watch next...I started to turn some LDs covers outwards on my semi full shelf for fun and to admire the art..

I have some micheals and just use it for the jackets unless it's a picture LP that I want to display.
It's been great so far but they do break easily so I need the on a shelf. I might just get rid of the frames and put them out on the shelf.

from the store yes. sorry it wasn't clear. I shouldn't really respond when I'm on the phone.

Yeah, I honestly might just end up doing that and turn the covers outwards.

Wasn't my intention to come across as a grammar nazi, just wanted to check that's what you actually meant. The switching of the a and e bothers me for personal reasons

I would remove the disc and store it and just hang the sleeve. I often hang the P&S version of a release since I usually find the artwork more appealing and keep the widescreen on the shelf for viewing.

I'm leaving the disc since the frame has a flat glass panel on the front and a flat wood panel in the back, making the LD+cover very comfortable.
For gatefold covers, I replace the wood panel with a thinner cardboard layer.

(I know this is still the Halloween display. Will upgrade for a more Xmas-y one soon!)

Works well for LP and LDs!

I would like to have one of those frames where it tilts open and you can just slide the sleeve in from the top.

I think the Toccata is more impressive than the plastic stuff on the wall.......

Well, the Fugue really is the fun part and the Tocatta builds up tension towards it first.
At some point I get lost in all the counterpoints and give up playing it correctly!

 I can't play it but do have a few CDs, one that I really like is with Peter Hurford playing on a great sounding organ.
