Sorry, I don't mean to rehash old material. Its just difficult to balance college and this as it is going to be a decent portion of my financial support. When my finals are finished, I will have all the time I need to conduct the research on my own. Sorry again.

I see a lot of people literally just making their own boxes to ship laserdiscs in, usually by cutting out large enough sheets from boxes and taping them together with a whole lot of tape and wrapping the sleeves in bubble wrap, and they seem to be doing the job well enough. They do probably sell mailers specifically meant for records but I doubt those will get you very far since LDs are much thicker and heavier than an LP.

LPs come in many thicknesses. Nowadays with so many things being reissued as double 180g LPs in gatefold sleeves the average new release LP may actually be thicker than the average LD was. Record mailers do really well for LDs, especially the ones Amazon uses. If also use cardboard to make my own, it works great.

The best boxes are for LP's. They sell them, are the perfect size, and really designed to keep discs of this size from being damaged. I would highly recommend them and if you plan to sell a lot of discs you can probably by them in bulk for a relatively low price.

One little thing that might help you when you're selling some of these- you have some Japanese versions listed in your collection. If they aren't sealed, take a peek inside the jacket and see if the obi strip is tucked inside. It's the little strip of paper that covers the left edge of the jacket. It (usually) increases the value of the title if it's included.

How much do you think Holladay will be grossing on 10-20,000 LDs
Probably 1 year minimum to do work on listing and selling them.

1 year for the cataloging and prep time. He'll sell about 3 per month if he is lucky. So somewhere between 140 and 300 years he should have them all sold. He's going to have play the "long game."

Well some of them might be worth of some money, but it'll still take a long time to sell.

It'd probably be better to filter those out and keep them with the hopes of long term sales and just sell the rest in lots.

I predict he'll find a few serious collectors locally in Tx or surrounding areas that take maybe 1-2000 of the 7000 total. Then perhaps another 500-1000 on lddb/eBay/FB groups until it gets too time consuming vs. profitable. Its the packing and shipping that takes so much time and effort.

The rest might well end up at Half Price Books which I hear so much about. Even if they gave him $2/movie at 3-5000 movies I'd take that in a heartbeat. Honestly I doubt they'd even offer that much really despite the fact they'd sell them for $5 and up.

I'm going to say 2 years part time labor to get rid of it all.

I also predict he keeps about 100 or so and gets a player, perhaps in trade, and becomes one of us. There is some great stuff on his list and I only wish I was closer.

Before Ebay came around I only had about 50 LDs at one point I had over 400 and now that I own 2 roku units and see all the free content
that I can watch until they remove it, most of which I don't care to watch more than once, the rest I have lived my life without watching and
can live without it.

I'm already at a point where I want to unload most of my LDs to get it down to less than 200 really tighten it up a lot.
Unfortunately I had a silent film kick years ago and was picking up a lot of them, those are going to be impossible to unload so I'll just
keep them and enjoy them.

It might sound like everyone is s****ing on selling movies but everyone has been fairly accurate. It's not limited to LD either, physical movie and tv show releases are niche at this point. I've been selling some unnecessary things on eBay. With everyone getting the stimulus money things have been much faster than normal. Most games are selling the same day, I had some sell within an hour (newer PS4 games mostly). A sealed DS Lite for over $200 took only one day. A Vita game for $180 took 2 days, a text heavy Japanese Saturn release took 2 days. Those two are things that would normally take weeks I feel. You get the idea. Well you know what I haven't sold a single one of is DVD, BD or LD.

That said it can't hurt to list stuff. Things will eventually sell and now is a great time.

@sonicboom: I can't imagine HPB paying that much for LDs. They offer very bad prices compared to what they ask for things. I think about 10%. I would say a quarter an LD might be possible. I haven't been to one in forever though.

I do see everyone's point in all of this. My plan for setting up shop is to sift through the discs and find things that have a higher value than the rest. Those I will pull aside and sell individually. What I will attempt to do with the rest is sell them in bulk to an interested party. I've received interest from an individual on here for all the discs as a lot, but of course I want to understand what their value is before I make a trade like that. I'm thinking of drawing the limit of selling the discs individually at around the $10 range. So that would mean If I were to bulk sell It would be for lower value discs, but of course I would be comfortable discounting the more pricey ones and grouping them into that order. I figure that this is my best shot at getting them sold since no one in my family besides myself will be able to invest their time this. To be honest I would even consider a road trip to sell the discs If the price was right. The whole lock down has my fiance eager to take a vacation with me and that could be something we could do to make life more interesting. Anyway's tonight is the night I've decided to begin my work. If I find anything that appears to be particularly of interest I will tell you all. Thanks again for all the advice and conversation. I truly does help me understand the path I need to take regarding all of this.

This is a large portion of the discs for anyone wondering. Also I believe I saw a comment that was potentially deleted addressing the fact that if I had gotten an offer I should take it. I’m definitely inclined to agree with that. You stated that horror, sci-fi, and anime is typically what holds value. My only issue is that I could easily see there being something in the collection worth a decent amount of money due to rarity. I know there are a few things of note like the Tron archive collection box set. I can also see that most of the value on the collection lies in popular things people love to collect and would want laserdiscs to complete their collection(examples include Star Wars, Indiana Jones, John Wayne films, etc). I will of course continue to look through the discs and try to judge their value, but I am open to conversations about buying the lot. If anyone is interested in discussing this please send me a personal message and we can try to work something out. I will send a message to the person who previously inquired about buying the lot. Also I do have a laserdisc player and have been pulling some discs aside to start a personal collection.

Thought the Boxsets were stacked on top of each other until I realized the photo was rotated 90 degrees.

Now I see the shelves :-)

Me too. I was like, OMG, they stacked box sets 8 feet high on top of each other and it's collapsing on its own weight! Then figured out the rotation was wrong... What a relief.
