Post subject:  RAREST LASERDISCS and THEIR PRICING
I recently sold The Iron Giant on ebay for $175 and Song of the South for $220.
What are the RAREST laserdiscs?
I have another rare one: Voluptuous Vixens 2, but I can't find a pricing on that, except on DVD, which goes for upwards of $100.
Having a hard time coming up with a price to list that one for on ebay, I was thinking of listing it for $100 and seeing what happens.

I have another ULTRA RARE JAPANESE adult laserdisc, which I believe to be the RAREST laserdisc I have ever owned. I can give more details, let's just say that technically it is illegal to posses it in the US.

I also recently sold the Anamorphic version of The Fugitive, which can go for up to $200, but I let it go for $80 a few weeks ago.

I see some Karaoke laserdiscs are rare, but most have no value.
Does anyone know if ANY Karaoke discs are rare and in demand?

I have The Decline of Western Civilization on ebay for $150 right now, but the only other comparison is one signed by one of the bands and is going for $300.
Honestly, I picked this up for $80 along with the Song of the South and sold Song of South for $220 already, just hoping to get about $100 for The Decline laserdisc.

I own some of the rarest LD's, and if you ask anyone, myself included at this point, they aren't worth that much.

Rarity ≠ Value

That being said, the most valuable LD I have is probably my sealed Song of the South, then maybe my sealed copy of Clerks but that's probably tied with the first Ewok film I have in terms of value.

If you want some rare discs I can unload some Ford Dealership LD's or some blank RLV's on you if you'd like.

I'm fairly certain there's less than 50 of the Blank RLV's still in existence, unless someone finds a warehouse of them and hopefully the Nimbus lvdr 610 that haunts my dreams.

For those able to hustle, more power to them. The Iron Giant has 5 US releases listed on blu-ray.com so I'll just sit back and laugh at the buyer...

All the flippers do is hoard rare discs that people want to actually watch while not watching them and holding onto them until the end of time where they will remain forever unseen, all because they refused to lower their stupid BiN prices to something reasonable.

..and when they eventually flip them to some chinless wonder they'll end up with nothing but comebacks because the disc will be rotten.

Failing that so much time will pass that a DVD, Blu or UHD or Streaming Service will put a better quality version out there. Thus making their hoard worthless.

Look at Rad for example, arriving on UHD very soon from the original camera negative no less.

Except for all those '99 and '00 JP releases that people spend hundreds of dollars on, despite being almost nothing but the most bland blockbuster trash of the period.

I haven’t been paying much attention lately but typically late 1999 and 2000 releases get the most money. There was even a few that constantly sold at over $1000 such as the sixth day, u-571 and titan ae. I believe there was only a handful of collectors who would pay such money and those already have these in their collections by now. It still doesn’t stop really high prices though. The same collectors go for second or third copies in order to use them as trades for other rarer titles like the cell and tokyo raiders.

I feel the upper end came lower but the lower end elevated. It is difficult to buy any Ld for under $20 plus ship unless you are with buying a lot or hunt down from local ads. Also $60-200 titles are very common now. Ironically these expensive LDs make even less sense now as they all have far superior releases on BD or even 4K for $20-30 new.

Some will claim the superior audio tracks etc 1- Lds don’t have superior soundtracks. 2- most who makes these claims watch their Ld tru TV speakers or a sound bar.3- do not confuse louder for better sound.

In the DVD days that was true, apart from some very early titles you'd only find PCM tracks in music titles, everything else got a lossy dolby digital track, and a lot of time you'd get an artificial surround track in lieu of the original stereo or mono mix. This was definitely case with a lot of Region 2 MGM titles that omitted the original track in favor of half a dozen different dub ones. This was particularly egregious with The Terminator since they'd altered the sound effects on the 5.1 track so the only way to get the original mix was to import.

With blu-ray that has all changed though, for the most part. The Terminator's mono mix is still relegated to the realm of DVD and Laserdisc.

There are a few exceptions like the terminator but they are far and few. But the significancy of the LD due to its technical or content wise merit rarely makes it expensive. The terminator was never a very expensive title to own. The cell on ld has nothing on the dvd or Blu-ray version except that it is one of the last releases and super rare.

Yeah, you got me, it's Traci Lords, Talk Dirty to Me 3.

I did see some blank recordable discs on ebay about a year ago. The listing had 3-5 RLV's, some written, some blank, I tried to bid over $50, but got outbid at last minute, have not seen any RLV on ebay since.

I just bought a 3M disc, I believe those were made to order laserdiscs, this one reads:
JTLS/SOUTHCOM on the back
The only info I can find on JTLS is some Joint Theater Level Simulator for the Southcom defense of US.

I think it is just a way of storing or displaying a background for a large simulation system. I did some searching on the web and eventually came across some text in a document that suggests that laserdiscs were used in this simulation system to provide like perhaps a background map.

The disc is still sealed, some I am just gonna open it and see what it is.

Also, I have Dario Argento's World of Horror GOLD laserdisc, it is not so rare, but really cool.

I guess my reason for this forum is just to start the dialogue, I am so curious about the rare titles out there.
