So I'm trying to transfer a very rare disc and its keeps locking up near the end. Might be laser rot related as there's a ton of spekles in some parts. I've tried playing this on 3 different players and they lock up near the end. Is there any way to reverse this or am I sol?

You can try it on a red laser player like HLD-X0 or X9 if you have access to one of these. These won’t improve the picture on rotted discs but have better luck reading through rot.

Does the CLD-1010 not have the so called "red laser" also?

I have one of them as my back-up player & as most of my serious rotters are PDO PAL LDs I cannot confirm if it helps improve the rot issue on playback.

The few NTSC LDs that I own that show mild rot may play a little better on the 1010 but any improvement is hardly discernible to my eyes.

There is at least one thread on here on the red laser thing.

Cheers

I thought about using a HLD player. I don't own one nor really want to spend the money to transfer this one disc. I do have a few other players I can try, but I doubt they'll play it successfully. Thanks!

I was hoping there would be another solution. sigh.

It does not. The CLD-1010 page at the Laserdisc Archive is incorrect.

What's the disc?

Its a production disc from an 80s tv show. Raw takes and such. Probably a part of some LD editing system. I never got the story on it. I got it for like $20 on ebay years ago. Wanted to make a better rip of it.

They probably exist in a vault somewhere but not on DVD..

Thanks cplusplus.

Pretty sure there is a thread or threads that mentioned that the 1010 had a red laser but I could not really understand why that one unit out of all the PIONEER players would come with an entirely different laser & it not being mentioned by PIONEER in any literature from them, as far as I know anyway.

Can I assume then that it comes with the same laser that would have been fitted within other PIONEER players of the time?

Thanks again cplusplus.

What disc is it? There are some of us here with HLD players and capture rigs. Someone might be willing to help you out and capture that one side for you.

The three lasers I know of are the 632.8nm (red/orange) HeNe gas laser used in the early models, the 780nm (infrared) semiconductor laser used in the vast majority of players (with the LD-700 in 1983 being one of the first), and the 670nm (red) semiconductor laser used in HLD players.

Thank-you.

So the mystery disc is from ... Alf!

I remember that I made a rip of the disc when I initially got them. Pulled up the recording I made and its only 20 min. This newer one I got 7 more mins. I think there's a few more mins left on it. If you wanna take a crack at ripping it with a HLD player, hit me up.

Give me about a month to become fully operational, I just moved and still installing my setup. I have an HLD-X0, Radiance 2144 and BMD Intensity Pro 4K capture card. The capture card has a crap for comb filter. Radiance 2144 has the best but doesn’t output 480i. So ideally 1080P24 for film base or 720P60 for video content for captures.

I was just curious if the "locking up" is just a Picture Stop Code? Like when you play a LaserActive disc in a regular player there is a message saying you can't play it and then about 500 PSCs before the actual content plays.

I'm suspecting these are CAV discs, and have a warp. This will create laserlock in some players. The manufacturing facility also makes a difference. CAV discs from Technidisc and 3M can be very suspect.

Open top players are going to be your best choice. My recommendation is a Pioneer LD-660 or PR-8210, the Magnavox VC-8010 or Sylvania VP-7200.
