Hi all New her.. I'm going to buy either a projector or a big TV soon, but don't know what to choose, I'm going to watch laserdisc the most But today you can get fairly large TVs which have a good picture for $ 725 and a projector for 4-5 times that amount plus a new bulb once in a while What do you say Dane |

I too would second that anytime, although if you go the modern PJ route it's probably a good idea to allow in your budget for the purchase of a decent video processor with a good comb filter, if this is not possible then maybe a top quality OLED is the way to go. |

This all depends on your money, space and how much or what you plan to watch on what. Do you plan to watch news on your 75 inch TV then get the TV. Do you plan to only watch movies then get a smaller TV and a projector. BUT remember that you will never have a flat enough wall in your house and you must invest in a screen and that will cost more. With technology now I would just get a newer projector than a CRT unless you have a large space as CRT projectors are heavy and large. 50/50 you can hang it from your ceiling but then again probably not. I have my DLP projector from new back in 2005 and have not replaced the bulb and now they are cheaper than before. But I only use it for films and haven't used it in about 3 years. You can also use this projector for DVD or Bluray not just LD playback. |

Like others suggested it depends on your budget and what you want as essentials. If you go with the TV route, OLEDs are significantly better than others and significantly more expensive. The 65” versions are somewhat reasonably priced compared to a few years ago but the 77” models are still very expensive. Very last generation Panasonic and Pioneer plasmas would be my next choice if you don’t care for 4K. They will beat any LCD and CRT by a margin. On the projector side, you can get a really nice used JVC projector if you don’t need 4K. Projectors drop value like a rock once a newer generation is out. What was used to be $15,000 JVC flagship 1080p projector is now barely $1,500. Sony also makes good projectors but can’t compete with JVC in black levels. If you do want a 4K projector then your options are very limited. They start at $4,000 but to be honest you need to get at least the $15,000+ laser models for decent light output in HDR. A good screen is also a must in any projector setup, ideally with masking. Screens hold their value well so even in the used market, it will be a few grand for a really good one. If you must have at least 75” (which eliminates any plasma which caps at 65”) and you are on a budget then any name brand LCD will do. They have come to a point most of them have great picture (not counting shortcoming of the LCD technology). |

I bought a 1200 Euro 4K Benq projector and I am very very satisfied with it. I am fully aware it is not real 4K but 4K content looks great to me on it. It looks clearly sharper than Full HD and HDR looks fantastic, too. Can't complain. Sure it can be better but I am already very satisfied. I watched a Blu-ray last night ( Rising Sun with Sean Connery and Wesley Snip ) via my Sony UHD Player and it looked fantastic to me. |

Sorry to be annorying - yes i have 3 laserdisc players and 300 ld movies,, and i am considering to look at the laserdisc format again, but much has happend since . |

JVC =D-ILA = LCoS, Sony = SXRD = LCoS, marketing names for the same thing. You need to provide budget and what else you will be doing with this display. If you really ask what is the best way to view laserdisc today without giving more details then I will tell you you need the Sony VPL-VW5000ES ($59,999) projector and the Stewart Director’s Choice ($39,999) screen in a light controlled room for the best Laserdisc viewing experience. |

That made me laugh!  To the OP, just get what you can afford and enjoy. Its laserdisc at the end of the day. You can only get so much out of it. I'm not sure even a $100k set-up would make an ld look any more like a blu ray or a well mastered anamorphic dvd. |
