Did a trade with a fellow collector from Germany. My South Park for my most desired to own disc The Matrix.
Will be shipping South Park to him later with week, so while I had the chance decided to make a photo of these two titans together.

That’s your most desired disk? The Matrix? This is as hot as it gets?

It was for sure a good trade but...raise the stakes, man! As they say, “It gets better.”

The second on the list is American Pie and She's all That. I have a lot of late release titles ( 1999 / 2000 / 2001 ).

Unfortunately I don't own one but you need A.LI.CE (Alice) (1999) [LSZS00200]

And DT Eightron [ZMLZ-101]

Both late releases and a must have.

Those are terrible movies. Do you have anything good on your list? Are you a movie lover in general? Who is your favorite director?

Please remember that Laserdiscs are just dead pieces of plastic. It’s the humanity they represent that is important. Being released late has zero correlation to artistic merit or cultural significance. A “late release” isn’t going to change your outlook on life or teach you anything just because it’s “late”.

I need to correct you, its the nostalgia that the Russian is living for.

Do you mean the nostalgia for a format one can only feel if they didn’t own it until it was dead?

@signofzeta

Yes I am a movie lover with over 700 titles split over DVD, Blu-Ray and LD and counting.
Also all the titles I have on LD I actually like to watch.

And it’s your opinion that Matrix, American Pie and She’s All that are terrible movies.
I love those movies to death.

I have many 80s classics like pretty much all John Hughes teen comedies and many more.
But I don’t buy stuff left and right. I buy stuff that I like and that is valuable in case funds need to be generated for something urgent.

You “love” She’s All That? Would you sign an affidavit to that affect? What’s your favorite line in the movie?

I was at the time 25, target audience. All my friends saw this movie. None of them have mentioned it in 20 years so I was sort of thinking it was forgotten. Critical opinion doesn’t seem to have gotten any better over time either...actually worse, if anything.

Do you like Shallow Hal? Which of the TEN sequels to American pie is the best? My favorite is Godzilla x Mothra x American Pie. That one was hilarious!

I have to confess that I closed a 22 year old gap and finally purchased 2 boxsets I couldn't afford/bring back in my luggage on my first trip to Japan in 1998.

Fushigi no Umi no Nadia: Perfect Collection Memorial Box (1990) [JSLD-1004]
Meitantei Holmes (Famous Detective Holmes): Memorial Box [TKLO-50185]

They were part of a trilogy of boxsets I really, really wanted to have on LDs -- 3rd one being the Ghibli Ga Ippai -- to replace my copied-from-(French)-TV VHS tapes of the complete Nadia and Holmes shows I hold on to until the VCR died.

Took only 22 years :-)

Did all your friends got woke or something ? Since it’s a traditional boy meets girl movie and it somehow offends 3rd wave feminists ?

She’s all that together with American Pie are gold standards of late 90s early 2000s teen movies.

Is that Nadia box The Secret Of Blue Water?I remember seeing bits and pieces about that series years ago but never got to watching it. Added to my watchlist!

That Sherlock Holmes set looks fantastic. I see there is a white box version too. Is that an earlier release? Any differences? It looks like something I'd be in to, though I'd be looking for it subbed and on DVD or better I think.

I'd take this opportunity to recommend a film called Gauche The Cellist, you'd probably like that. Very good anime film from 1982.

I realize it's just Techwars, but I think this is really cool.

I’m not really familiar with the slang you are using (I’ve never been to a Men’s Rights rally). Can you use normal English, please? I’m trying to talk about movies.

Who is your favorite director?

I feel we are similar in some ways. I have 2/3 of those but Nadia only on DVD. I remember when the Nadia box(s) came out and I saw a dealer at a con with it...lord, so expensive.

IIRC the white box is the OG and the blue the reprint. The insides are surprisingly identical, I think, maybe the phone card has a different date on it but they both have the book. The book cover changes color with the outer box too, IIRC.

I got myself quite an anime haul:
Sol Bianca Vol.1
Sol Bianca Vol.2
Sol Bianca Vol.3
Sol Bianca Vol.4
Sol Bianca Vol.5 (will send cover pictures soon as there isn't any)

Blue Submarine No.6 Vol.1
Blue Submarine No.6 Vol.2
Blue Submarine No.6 Vol.3

Too bad I'm missing the last volumes for each, or I would have had my firsts completed series on LD.

And I also finally got myself a good and nicely priced copy of The Terminator from a new seller here. So I'll finally be able to watch this original mono mix everyone thinks highly of.

I have some good content to watch ahead of of me :)

I've opened the damaged box right away. Got a fright when I saw that! All the discs inside that box are perfect aesthetically. Those meant more to me as those were discs I'd specifically procured. The other box is the 21 disc, 1 Yen special!

Interestingly they took quite the journey to get to my door. It took FedEx over 2 weeks to deliver this lot. They sat in Japan for ages. Then got punted across to Taiwan, then Hong Kong, then Belgium, then Germany, then the UK and finally Ireland. Usually they go Japan > France and/or Belgium > UK > Ireland and within 4 or 5 days. Probably COVID-19 related delays which is understandable, just so long as the workforce are all safe and well is what matters.

I'll post 'em up here tonight once I've defrosted from sea swimming after work! :silent:

Here's box 1. I'll open the other box tomorrow. Enough to get through for now.

First up is the 3D Jackie Chan film I was on about recently. Complete with 3D glasses.

Image

Next is a random disc called Image Bank 2. No idea if it's any use. I saw baseball on the front and had to have it!

Image

One of my all time favourites. Kure Kure Takora aka Gimme Gimme Octopus! This will replace the bootleg DVDR I've had for the last 17 or so years. :D

Image

More baseball! This one is cool as it is celebrating the Hanshin Tigers winning the 1985 NPB Climax Series. I think this is the one where the fans threw a statue of Colonel Sanders in to a river after the game. It was found and dug up by divers a couple of years ago!

Image

Now this one is weird. Mind Control 2: Ophelia. No idea if this is Paul McKenna type stuff. I shall find out!

Image

The nation's favourite. Tune Up A.V.!!! :D

Image

RIP. :(

Image

Tomoyasu Hotei wrote the battle theme in Kill Bill. This is a 3D Laserdisc complete with glasses. It's a live concert. Look him up on YouTube, he's awesome!

Image

My favourite disc! This one is about the Railway Constitution of Japan! I really hope it's an epic tale of suits in a boardroom filling in paperwork!

Image

This one is a rejig of a MUSE disc about Okinawa aquarium. Gonna test the R7G with this perhaps!

Image

Check out Masayoshi Takanaka on YouTube. He is awesome live. This disc I hope will be just as good.

Image

Last but not least, you've hopefully heard of them by now, this is Shakatak! This one is interesting as it was made for the Kenwood Cup boat race. The music here is whopper, a bit of a detour from their usual stuff. Check out the incredible track Endurance to see what I mean!
