Pretty excited about all the music LDs as well, I will add info to the database that is missing from them. Tell me more about that Sharon Apple box. I'm intrigued! Is it Macross Plus in episode or film form? Is there any extra stuff in there from Yoko Kanno (aka Sharon Apple)? It is a box designed to hold all 4 volumes, and came with the first volume only so you had to still buy the rest. |

I have that Playboy Karaoke LD (and vol 2 as well.) The times I've "DJ'ed" karaoke at friends' parties I always hope someone picks a song off of one of Playboy discs (I have a list of the songs I have available printed out) and not tell them it's on a Playboy disc. Then just spin it up and watch their reactions of the videos while they try to sing Unfortunately hasn't happened though. |

I also recommend War of the Worlds and The Time Machine, laser movies based upon books by that same author. |

I was buying a trading card from mandarake and I wanted to buy something else along with it, so I got these two. ...and it turns out I already own the said card anyway. Probably should've checked beforehand. Whoops! |

I also bought a sealed early analog PAL disc because I'm a massive idiot. [Reveal] Spoiler: Actually I can't even play analog PAL discs, I just bought it to frame. |

Told myself I was freezing the expansion of my collection, but something kept nagging at me, namely how Legend of the Galactic Heroes has all of this animation that got replaced with digipaint for the DVD releases and onward, and how unlike a few years ago I have some rudimentary but steadily improving Japanese comprehension and a laserdisc player. So I picked up a bunch of Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Specifically, the second of four box sets, containing volumes 8-14. Full two episodes per side, which I believe corresponds to the second "season" of the show (second set of OP/ED sequences). Unfortunately, the box arrived more damaged than advertised (the lid of the box is detached from the spine). Fortunately though the discs seem to be okay and the sleeves are in acceptable shape. Also comes with a little notebook of character and mechanical designs, one of those Japanese phone cards, and a "Video Single Disc" for the opening theme song, which I haven't unsealed. According to Wikipedia this is a similar format to CD Video except the audio isn't compatible with a CD player; only works in an LD player. News to me! Watched the first disc, and holy smokes is the video quality all over the place. Color, brightness, saturation, everything varies wildly from shot to shot. That remaster they did for the DVDs wasn't for nothing, though it's unfortunate they had to replace so much of the animation in the process. This also adds a bunch to my to-do list for site submissions: none of these volumes are actually in the database yet! I'll try not to procrastinate on that. EDIT: Never mind, they're there, it's just that the titles are rendered differently than other volumes in the database so I didn't see them when I searched. |

Yeah, I watched LoGH in HD a few years back and there was a particular shot that sticks to mind, there are two characters in the shot and the one in the background is a digipaint replacement but the one in the foreground isn't (in fact, I think he looked like he was sourced right out of analog video rather than a HD master!). |
