Hello!

Took me a while to find copies online to confirm the specs, prices and reference numbers but eventually I solved the mystery of the overpriced Bogyduard -- found in an official Pioneer Japan catalog -- that was bugging me for a long time.

Bodyguard, The: English Conversation Series (1992) [YSL-12591]

I found 2 more:

Anne of Green Gables: English Conversation Series vol.1 (1986) [PILW-1112]
Anne of Green Gables - Anne of Avonlea: English Conversation Series vol.2 (1988) [PILW-1131]

These were expensive, educational releases (about $120 each) with bilingual EN/JP soundtracks, extra studying material with listening understanding question books, etc.

There might be more but I only found 3 so far.

I can understand Anne but why include the bodyguard? Anne is suitable for educational purposes but how is the Bodyguard a fit for that? It seems random.

It was massively popular and probably has some language in it that is good for this series.

The dual language Cagliostro is similar to this but not in this actual series. It was expensive, it’s dual language, and it comes with a script.

the back is interesting. too bad they didn't do Japanese conservation for the English speaking market. But I wonder did really help some people though with English?

When one studies a foreign language one usually memorizes “dialogues”, translates writings, etc. This would be perfect for advanced English students in Japan...which is anyone under the age of 75, pretty much, since English isn’t that foreign in most of Japan.

The way this is presented also lends some weight to the idea that LD+G was invented for language learning because...seriously, what else use is it?
