Hello bigdunlop,

Thank you for sharing.

I remember seing the Philips player for sale around 1981+, they still come up on ebay from time to time, and in working order.

Thank you

Regards

Very interesting article. Suprised to see VHD getting such a prominent mention as it was all but forgotten about in Europe and USA.
VHD was a great format too - I've seen the quality available from the discs and it had a lot of potential but sadly made almost no impact outside Japan.

Like the random wrinkles/scuffs on the magazine front exactly round the man's face which give him what looks like a silver space age beard!

Laserdisc is really an unknown in australia and the other formats unheard off completely.

The LaserDisc player in the picture is the Pioneer VP-1000, which do come up from time to time on eBay, and still work. I have 3 of them.

I have never found any of the first generation Philips players that work. Even the one I had in 1987 was a piece of junk and it didn't work. I know of several collectors that have a VC-8000 practically new in box and they are all junk.

Now, if mean the VC-8010, which was a dark grey, had buttons across the front and a squared off lid, you may very well find those and still in working order. They were the Philips branded Pioneer LD-1100. I have one of those too, (and it's Sylvania cousin the VP-7200) and they are great 2nd generation players.
