The glue dried up? Is there some power/dust inside (decaying glue) or did it just stop being sticky enough to hold the 2 platters? What title/manufacturer is it? Julien |

Julien Hi Julien It looks like the glue just dried up and gave up - not much dust....the disc was still playing OK (with noise) ! Im thinking the spinning and the heat finally led to the separation. There is no obvious issue with the look of the disc - it looks perfect - other than its separated. 'Ryans Daughter from MGM..manufactured by Pioneer.. see photo

Now that I've calmed down. There are many factors and the first is how long have you had this disc and do you know that its been stored properly as they say to do on the instructions for the past 20 give or take years. If they were apart completely then you can't lose anything to glue it. Would use something that wouldn't have any solvents like an epoxy or type of glue. You need to line the sides up perfectly or very close. |

Yes I was perplexed when I saw this!...had same fear that sudden separation is a 'thing' ...only recently acquired - the disc and covers were in perfect appearance. |

Nope, no idea what type of glue was used. Well after another day and relaxing about this issue I realized that I have never had this happen and have bought discs new, so this may be a poorly stored disc issue and we have to worry in the future about used discs from unknown collections. |

Maybe it was stored in a bad place for a long time before you got it ? |

The Good news - clearly it's rare! Having done some searching ..it seems an epoxy glue is used...its a shame for this set..but good that it is unlikely to be seen again. fingers crossed of course. Youtube videos exist of people separating CD/DVD discs with extreme heat or cooling....it gets hot here..maybe it was stored in a tin shed for a few years of extreme temp .... |
