This morning I was going to watch Innerspace as I haven't had time to watch it since I bought the disc 5 years ago.
Quickly I was very disappointed to find out I had bought a dud!
This widescreen disc was the dubbed Japanese version. :wtf:  :?
WTF!?

I have never heard before that English movies used to be dubbed to Japanese language?
Is this common for English spoken movies to be dubbed in Japan?

https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/51734/NJ ... Innerspace

I was really pissed about this that seller never informed me I was buying a Japanese dub!
I paid $26.29 USD including shipping for this LD.
Waste of money :!:

I bet this MoFo is a member on this forum, his name is Cockney.

This is not the norm, usually they just do subtitles but I think there are a few animation that I remember they did this with.
It was the wacky Races discs if I remember correctly?

Wacky Races: LD Set (1968) [COLC-3141~48]

Wacky Races: vol.1 (1968) [C59-6382]

English movies dubbed in Japanese?!

All jest aside, that's why you look up all you can about a release before you buy it. It says right on the page you linked that the audio is in Japanese. Maybe the seller would have been courteous to include more information on the disc, but two words: "Caveat emptor."

Sledge Hammer! is also dub only for some reason and that's live action.

This is not "common" but there are several examples available, in your case the NJL-11754 is the regular version with original language and NJDL-11754 with Japanese language, its not always so obvious though.
There are indeed also bi-lingual LD's available for non-Japanese domestic films.

Best to check LDDb - but it is not aways correct :
Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990) [NJDL-11886] : shows english... but is japanese dubbed version (I will request update) - this is indicated on the jacket and round OBI.

Thanks for your replies.

Most of the times I do check info on LDDB before I purchase discs, but this one must have slipped my mind?
Seller stated the catalogue number NJDL-11754 on his ebay sales-ad but failed to inform there was no English audio on this disc.
Yesterday I was really pi$$ed when I was going to enjoy this LD to find out it was a dubbed version!

Sellers name on his hotmail is Cockney Scotsman.
Is this a real English-American name for males or is it only an alias?

It's an alias (unless his parents had a goofy sense of humor), but why is that relevant? Putting all the relevant information on the ebay listing is certainly best practice, but as you say, he did provide the catalog number. I don't think this merits any vendetta or public shaming against the seller.

I was thinking perhaps seller is a member here?
That's why I mentioned his alias.
Perhaps he would redeem himself being a gentleman, but probably not?

You do know that some people do collect the same movie with different copies, so for all the cockney knew you just wanted to complete your innerspace collection.

Also Cockney may not have even known themselves and just sold it, did cockney actually watch it??? Also it took you
5 years to watch this, would you be posting if the disc had rot or a crack that you didn't notice when you got it 5 years ago???

I'm not cockney but you just need to chalk this one up to remember and make sure all discs are what you plan to be.
Just like buying Kong Kong discs, not all have subtitles but most do.

You are buying a disc for a foreign market and have to take that risk, which by the way is very small.

I only have 1x of Innerspace which turned out to be the wrong version!

Maybe I can learn Japanese in the future and then enjoy the movie?
