Hi, I recently picked up laser disc again, and was happy to receive The Cable Guy, that had no visible laser rot to it. But my player couldn't play it and I just got a P5 Error. Tried my backup player, same same, also P5. So i guess, laser rot doesn't have to be visible at all ? ( i do have some that have blackening areas that do still play though, but gets more and more noisy nearing the end.) BR Henrik Brinch, Denmark, Europe |

That's pretty much as much rot as you can see with the physical eye. |

While it’s true that rot so bad it trashes the disc is almost always invisible, we also have threads here depicting disc defects that are so severe they are very visible. If you have a rotted disc though there is a %99+ chance that you won’t be able to see it. |

Only last night I decided to play my LD copy of Indian in the Cupboard, The (1995) [11646] [LDVS-002807] disc absolutely pristine visibly and not a hint of anything amiss - boy what a mess once I hit the play button with both video and audio badly affected, although the audio did at least settle down once into the third or so chapter. Damn shame really as whatever opinion you may have about the movie itself, the image and audio quality are absolutely stunning! |

The Laserdisc Database website does not state that there are Critical cases of rot on the 1996 Laserdisc of Indian in the Cupboard, The (1995) [11646] [LDVS-002807]. I think you forgot to report this title as a rotter. |

I wonder how many just toss the disc rather than listing it has rot. I've done that many times. |
