Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970) [1101-85]

had to do this one due to Roger Ebert

“You’re a groovy boy. I’d love to strap you on sometime.”

This is an out there film, written by the late Roger Ebert and put onto the screen as only the late amazing Russ Meyer could do.

Film is about a rock band and meeting up with people in LA to get ahead in the business.
They meet the long lost rich aunt and it goes crazy from there.

Zman bartel is the main character that really steals the picture, over the top record producer
Who has crazy parties in his house with a bartender “Martin Borman”

At the end there is a crazy 4 person party with one being Zman, all dress in costume and he is “superwoman” crazy stuff that only Russ can pull off.

Picture is 2.35 and is nice, no reel change markers, picture is not super clear and there seems to be some issue with the scan lines?
On still images the text would bounce up and down on different lines, I don’t know what that is called.

After the film you get a surround check and color bars.

Love this movie - I added it to my laserdisc collection last year.
Remember seeing it on TV many years ago and not really comprehending what I'd just witnessed!
The far out fashions are only matched by the even more spaced out dialogue which could only come from that era.

The music the band play is also very cool.

that's how i found it also, i saw the last 1/4 of the film, or even less, once they started tripping at the final party.
and couldn't believe the film, found out what it was since it was late night cable, i think 3:00am

found the LD back in the day, i think around 2004. but it is a great film.

The screen camera captures make the picture look like 15 feet wide. Its hard to tell when lights are turned off?

Does the screen have black boarders around it?

The first picture I know the camera is adding in the green when it should it be a bright blue like colour.

I have to try so many settings on my camera to get around that. Still nice pictures that shows the width of the scope.

first picture is supposed to be blue, you are correct.
there is a black border on the screen, but i have to change the distance of the projector and size of screen to fill the screen.

i only had one lamp light on, it didn't make any differenc with picture quality, the camera is not the best.
and i tried another one but it didn't come out right, so i'll have to see about getting another camera.

also the picture is not one of the clearer LDs, but it's not really film grain.

I just added more Russ Meyer LaserDiscs to my collection, including Up!/Cherry, Harry & Raquel: Russ Meyer (Uncut) [ID3478RM]

I believe Roger Ebert co-wrote Up!, which is every bit as twisted as Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, maybe even more so. It came out in 1976 I believe. Roger working on an X Rated film after he started working as a film critic.

HA I haven't seen this film or post since I made it, haven't used the projector either.
Those images are from my projector with what I can see a poor phone camera at the time, wow how technology and time advances without our control.

Good times watching that film, may watch it again before I list it for sale since its been almost 12 years,
and to think Alexander took over how much of the world in about 10 years :wtf:
