Beau geste [NALA-10055]

WOW! what an amazing lost classic.
this has an amazing cast of actors.
the film is great, pretty fast paced for a film of the time.

image is beat up and bright in some spots and too dark in others.
but overall so far the only way to see it.
titles are in english, there are no Japanes subtitles or anything, on the second track there is Japanese naration.
music is a little distracting at some spots when it stops but you get used to it.

if you love silent films and you don't have this yet FIND IT!!

Great find rein-o! I love this film. The last time I saw it was last summer at the Academy theater in Los Angeles during their Silent Summer series. Any chance you can post a pic of the cover? Also, is there a music score and if so what kind..(piano, small orchestra, synthesizer, ect.) The acting is great by everyone but the kid in me just gets a kick out of seeing a young Neil Hamilton (1960's Commissioner Gordon).

the music is more of a small orchestra, strings etc. but only about 3-4 people?
i saw after the film on imdb about hamilton and thought that was really cool.
i loved the scene where william powell was trying to steal the belt and they put bayonets into his hands.

i did update it but it will take time to get finalized, so i didn't take a picture right away.
but i can post one here later.

That's awsome. Does it say anywhere who scored the music? Little bit of trivia: The silent version was filmed in a desert in Southern California very close to the Mexican boarder. When Paramount remade it in the 30's, they sent the crew back to the same location and they built a new fort on top of the remains of the old one. A couple film historians including Kevin Brownlow went down there to look at the location a year ago. They were stopped by immigration officers and after finally convincing them that they weren't there to help anyone cross the boarder, they found the remains of both forts and thousands of movie used bullet shells. In other words, if you know where to look, a good chunk of the set is still there nearly 90 years later.

There are a few other Japanese silent releases that were never released in the US. I've been trying to track them down for years with very very little luck. Again, great find!

here's a picture of the front and back.
i did study Japanese for about 1 1/2 to 2 years but can't really read or speak much.
SO if it has info on the back about the music i can't read it.

i was going to buy this on the bay about 8 years ago when i first saw it, but decided not to.
and years of searching for it i found it from recobanchou. i had to pay with shipping around 35
but it was worth it, but i didn't save much but wasted years
as it sold on the bay for around 40 bucks.

that's really cool about the set, when i was watching last night i kept asking my girlfriend
if she thought it was shot in the deserts of CA, i was amazed at how large the sand dunes were.

and if you need a closeup of the back i can post it.

Oh man that looks amazing! I've seen a couple other titles in that series, they have the same cover logo. I wonder how many of them they were. The Marriage Circle has been on ebay for a couple years but the seller wants way too much for it. I've got to find this one. Thanks for sharing.
