Now playing in Dolby Stereo / Lucasfilm Ltd THX Sound System / JBL
"I could have killed 'em all, I could kill you. In town you're the law, out here it's me. Don't push it! Don't push it or I'll give you a war you won't believe. Let it go. Let it go".
The pressing on FIRST BLOOD is pure with the colour tone no issues with blues and whites, the nature of the outside forest trees and rocks look nice. Picture as slight grainy gritty look even in the dark shadows. I like the little bits of dirt and scratches (que dot marks would be nice)
The Jerry Goldsmith score is classic for the first Rambo outing. Dolby mix, dialouge track is clear though the loudness moments. Dogs pan from front to back, bullets ricochet off rocks when the police chase after him, The bass level is good enough I feel it mildly pressing on me.
The Dolby Lt-Rt on this pressing is reversed. A quick swap around on the back of the Pioneer DVL-909 put the Dolby mix in correct position to panned sounds.
The picture may be on the slight slim cropped side with the width but over some TV past showings where its still cropped with W/S look rather than scope look. I'll have to check against the DVD pressings I have.
The Foley work when (Brian Dennehy) character Teasle, runs across the roof the footsteps are felt which is nice to notice.
When, "the outpost" is blown up it had a deep end explosion that rumbled for a few seconds.
"Its a long road" sounds clear on the end credits.
Taken while film runs as the digital freeze puts too much stepping around the image.
I like these films. I have them on DVD and blu-ray, but not on Laserdisc. Have to say I really like the cover art on the first Rambo. Almost makes me want to add to the collection LOL.

The cover is close to the artwork of the cinema poster for First Blood and Rambo III. The artwork for Rambo II is not the same for the UK artwork not sure what the US poster was like but a Google is only few click, clicks away.
The UK artwork was like this and the "AA" cert wow I'd buy that.
Picture is okay on the Laserdisc Sound is dreadful due to the same lousy print master tape being used as its all out-of-phase and its annoying to listen to.
The DVD 5.1 release as far as I recall was no better in fact it sounded like a fake 5.1 due to the leakage of front crosstalk into the surrounds. So I doubt the HD-DVD or the bluray would be any better and I'm not going to waste any more money on it.
I first noticed the issue as far back as the PAL VHS Hi-Fi stereo rental years ago.
Well at least I didn't have to reverse the Lt-Rt leads like I did for "FIRST BLOOD".
Laserbite, can I ask a favor? And please don't take this harshly because that's not where it's coming from, but would you please stop posting pictures of your discs next to your equipment rack? It takes up all kinds of space in the thread and we've all seen your system a thousand times before. I know you are proud of it, and you should be, but the repetition is just getting old and irritating. And please shrink your screen caps - they are so big they reduce the text and make the whole thread hard to read.
Again, please don't get upset at this request - I know it's bothered other people too and the forums would be a lot easier to read without pictures of discs next to your cinema racks all the time and tens of pictures of your screen shots.
