decided to do a picture review on these two.
Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn (1987) [VL5212]

Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn: Special Edition (1987) [EE3845]

both pretty much have the same picture quality, the special edition has an added commentary, making of and digital sound.

nice prints with little to no damage, only times i saw some damage is when they put some extra stock footage in.
like the foot breaking right before the bridge scene. that foot has major damage on it.

on the first issue there are end of side 1 and end of side 2 on each side to let you know it's time to filp since it's an older pressing.

anyway here are some pictures, i tried to get the same scenes on both, you can see the first is
the academy ratio, not open matte or even pan and scan, if it were open you would see stuff that was cut out
like boom mics and such, but there are none, it was shot in a full screen as my pictures will show.

the widescreen is just like it was zoomed in and nothing special like some that are framed higher or lower
on the image from scene to scene.

only thing special about the special edition is again the commentary and the making of at the end.

The first one scared me and I can't watch it again even thou seemed campy with visual make-up effects the story was damn creepy.

I have "Army of Darkness" (1992) on HD-DVD and I haven't watched it yet fearing I might have nightmares from it??

The scene with car crashing down is what I can remember seeing from clips on TV.

I read the description in one of the links for SE. So the commentary session is laughable as that's what I'm guessing?

Is the first anything like that "Blair Witch Project"? I mean they go into the woods and all hell starts breaking lose. Films like "The Evil Dead" after seeing it I won't walk though the woods at night time. Not even if you paid me.

i saw evil dead 2 first, then years later i saw the Evil Dead.
after seeing it again a few days ago to make a review it was more realistic than the second and third which have more
camp and they are funny.

so if you can do watch this one and the army of darkness, they are really funny, this one has some serious scenes but
not 100% like the first one, that was almost as you mentioned like the final few minutes of blair witch.

The clichés are the same with everyone we ether don't admire or we like ether getting bumped off until its one or two that make it though or we're left with one those endings like the first "The Evil Dead". Same about "The Thing" (1982) rumours of squeal floating around but I personally think they we're toast at the end. In the original "The thing from another world" had a more of happier ending. Unlike, Ash at the end I was left wondering that thing in the cabin got him!

As for Blair Witch never seen it and there is also something else like kinder of I guess? "Apollo 18" with some demon/alien or what ever on the moon attacking the crew, from the trailer that is what I make of it?

I'm a fan of "Darkman" the directed by Sam Raimi. It is scary in sense what happens to the character with everything he loved taken from him and then goes out for revenge bumping off the gang one by one in dark sense of the word funny as we'd be rooting for him.

Yeah I was cheesed off when all the people in "The Evil Dead" was getting bumped off in the most hideous way, that looked shocking at first in the early 80's on bootleg VHS and by the end were left with a no hope ending.

Well I like how Raimi kept with Bruce Campbell has he turns out to be the hero of the films.
