Star Trek VII: Generations (1994) [LV 32988-2WS]

Arrived on 16th March and costed me only £3.99 . I have owned this pressing once before but sold it when DVD came out years ago. Well now I'm back into the collecting and this pressing wow flawless. Nice all-round picture quality that mirrors close to two region 2 DVD, no colour tone issues, asides from being on the dark side a bit but other than that no complaints about the picture/sound on the THX Laserdisc.

Getting the camera to behave with lighting of colours on this shot was tricky and I gave up and settled on this one after 10 or pictures at different mode settings.

"HELM! Warp one! Engage"!

Side 2 is CAV so the still mode is free of the digital stepping noise that it places around the image.

"I just love scanning for lifeforms".

Dennis McCarthy music/score has an epic sound to it. Sound effects are nicely designed and mixed positioned over the 6 discrete channels with a computer voice panning around during the evacuation of the Enterprise, due to cooling leak that is about to exploded the Enterprise. Dialouge track mix sounds clear all the way though word for word even during the loudest of moments.

Side disc change for disc 2 side CLV

"Somehow I doubt that this will be the last ship to carry the name Enterprise". "Picard to Farragut, two to beam up".

I'll give "STAR TREK GENERATIONS" THX Laserdisc for picture/sound and equal

Good morning laserbite34,

Congratulations on the return of your LD title of Star Trek Generations, yes this is a fine transfer and great sound.

I am still keeping a watch out for X-Files DTS.
I have seen these come up quite often on the auction site, it will happen honest.

A long story......Suffice to say that it has been a tough year all round........

I hope you are well

Genuine Regards

I remember when ST:Generations AC-3 LD was released and Widescreen Review was over the top with excitement at the bass extension when the saucer section crashes - also it was a film that used 'real' 5-channel recordings of foley and 'room tone' to capture the unique phase and pressure signatures of the desired environments - in other words, Gary Reber's beloved 'Holophonic' sound recording.

Andrew, the PQ you are getting from that disc is great - I don't see any crosstalk or signs of mistracking, just a sharp, colorful image with great detail. Are you using the comb filter built into your player, receiver or television, and if the receiver or TV, what kind of comb is it, 2D or 3D?

No filters at all and I have the Onkyo, now and so I guess picture would look a shade different better passing though to CRT.

Only noise on the screen is created by the camera if zoomed in too close or camera is too close it adds in some strange line pattens.

smitken, now what do you have in mind?

benmbe, you still have those blu ray and DVD I sent you?

I only just noticed a region B is being released on 2nd September, as there has been a region A release for years.

The lines are beats/aliasing between the camera's CCD and the structure of the RGB elements on the screen - actual film is best for taking pictures directly from the screen since the grain pattern is finer than any electronic camera can achieve.

When you write "no filters at all" you mean no noise reduction, rigt, not no comb filter? I ask to clarify because your LD signal would have to pass through some sort of comb filter or, at the very least, a notch filter which couldn't be the case because a notch filter would reduce the horizontal resolution to about 270 line - a drastic reduction and unacceptable for any sort of home theater system. What's the model # of your receiver and do you have your LaserDisc player hookd to it via S-Video, SCART or composite RCA cable?

I can't comment on that it might Super70 drastic Vista Vision  I know the video goes from the players to AVR to TV on video line only.

Also less if not no visible lines on LCD projector.

Also my comb is in the bedroom and I hardly brush it though tv scan lines.

Good evening Laserbite,

That's good I thought I read you message correctly :D

Only drink red wine or a single malt whiskey on Friday evening or Saturdays.
Yes I have but this was after I posted that reply

How are you keeping
The tin of tuna made me feel hungry......

I am thinking of spinning Generations over the next few days......as it's been a long time since I last watched it.

Regards to you

:D

I'll save some of it for Sooty, he likes a treat once in while.

You enjoy the wine and give it spin if even its for the sound highlights from the film which is the whole film.

I'm not a big Star Trek fan, but I enjoy this movie because of the crossover. If you find it for a couple bucks, yeah it's worth it. LOL - I feel like that's the case with most good stuff on LD, if you find it cheap, YES.
