Adventures of Hols, Prince of the Sun (Taiyou no Ouji Horusu no Daibouken) [BEAL-372]

listed on the cover in english is the title: Little Norse Prince Valiant

wow, what an amazing anime film, i was only loosely watching this last night and today, i have to sit and watch it again.
this version is CAV over 3 sides in widescreen 2:35

there is another version on CLV Prince of the Sun (Little Norse Prince) (1968) [LSTD01511]
but i don't own that one.

i will do a review in more detail in a few days.
there is a trailer before the film, the film is amazingly clear for being from the late 60s.
from what i've read this was one of the first anime films made??
great stuff.

the picture quality is super clear.

It was the first anime film in US theaters.

Correct romanization is, afaik, "Horis". Anyone interested can see this on Netflix instant, btw.

you still get what the film is but it looks like it was one of the last anime films made by cells when you watch the LD

This movie really is a landmark of anime: it marked the directorial debut of Isao Takahata, Miyazaki worked as a key animator on it, and the legendary animator Yasuo Otsuka served as the animation director (Otsuka was Miyazaki's mentor, and played a key role in Lupin III with his obsession for detailed vehicles/mechanics seen already in the first episode of Lupin (the amazing "green jacket" series) ).

Thanks for the heads up on this one: I watched a fansub years ago and should rewatch it again, and never really thought of the LD release (just ordered a copy from surugaya - the stuff they have is amazing).

i have to sit down and watch it on either my projector or larger TV.
when i watched it, it was on my 13 inch set in my work room and i can't really give good reviews off that set.

I have seen a screening of this film on 35mm and remember it looking pretty glorious. This film is also based on a Scandinavian folktale which is easily revealed from the English title (as norse means the Scandinavian people before the Christianisation of Scandinavia).
