Arrived this morning and in pristine condition. I have been after this dts pressing for years...
Previously owed the Dolby digital AC-3 release years ago but didn't have Dolby AC-3 RF demodulator around 1999. I sold it for the region 2 DVD early release pressing that I still have.
The dts encoding mix on this pressing will be under A B test with R2 DVD later on in the day.
Packing was good.
Cover is in fine condition.
Laserdiscs are in fine condition.
On with the film
dts introduction followed by small introduction by creator the show Chris Carter.
Film Starts
Hey guys I found oil I'm rich.
Nice smooth helicopter pan from right -side surrounds over across the LCR stage channels then fades off with an eerier music in background boom, boom.
Scully, has that shocked look face look. This isn't right a key hole sealed up.
The Nokia phone tone sounds very realistic as if its in the home cinema, on centre channel. Makes me jump every-time.
Blythe Danner who plays the FBI agent woman Jana Cassidy also starred in FutureWorld (1978)
The film has finished now at 13:07hrs
For Laserdisc picture its not bad its satisfactory. More images to come with side 2 and Side 3 CAV. Then a quickie listen to the region 2 DVD and switch player modes to compare.
Well I'll play it again looks like its going to have 3 or 4 showings today.
Bonus image for post 1 The Sooty-Files.

Checking DVD and Laserdisc now and I knew in my subconscious that the DVD was higher in level.
My trusty SPL db metre set up in front of me and fader adjustment between each disc shows.
LD NTSC dts
Bomb explosion chapter 6, 27m.15s Fader set at (4.0db) SPL reading 90dbc
Nokia phone tone at 24m 42-44s 69dbc _____________________________________________________
DVD R2 PAL Dolby Digital
chapter 3, 19m.37s Fader set at (4.0db) SPL reading 94dbc. Level lowers then rises up again a few db between the building explosion that was plenty loud enough.
Nokia phone tone at 17m 11-12s 68dbc (the tone sounds faster due to the 4% frame rate speed-up and sounds very noticeable to my ears).

Do you have the BD of it? I haven't checked out if there are any differences yet. I wish the second movie was better but if 3rd one happens I would be happy:)

Well no not yet only X-Files on region 2 DVD, 1 and 2.
Some of the colour tones are different between the LD and DVD. The batteries for the camera at present recharging.
I'll take a few DVD to LD snap shots later on.
I am enjoying second watching of LD while the DVD plays in the other player.
The second one. "I hear dogs barking" no guns no explosions. The first one is better it has better story better sound mix.
Mulder injects Scully with a vaccine that sends the ALIEN virus out of her body that is soon followed by a break-down with the system lots of earthquake rumbling.
As monitored on THX sound system, LCR shows a rumble track that starts more around side 3 CAV Frame 8394
As monitored on THX sound system,LFE.1 shows a rumble track that starts more around side 3 CAV Frame 8394 and fades in/out on the mix at different times.
I would see a better low end on the NTSC nothing to do with dts or Dolby the NTSC would have lower speed therefore the lows would be a couple of cycles lower pitched over PAL but I'll compare the R2 DVD later on same scene.
