Godfather Trilogy: 1901-1980 (1992) (Uncut) [LV15147-7]

i'm not really going to review the film itself but more the image on the LD as i always try to.
i grew up watching these films on TV over the years, for some holidays they had special
back to back showings of the godfather I and II or even special TV edits showing the films.

i remember watching the 3rd one years ago and not caring too much for it.

This box set has all 3 edited into one long run piece.
The first two films are open matte and as listed the 3rd film is P/S but I don’t feel
There is much image on the sides that is lost.

It starts out in the beginning of the life of veto Corleone and ends with his son Michael Corleone.

All 3 films are blended so well together that its a real treat to watch them.
The film quality has some scratches and damage on the first two, the third
Made years later is very clean, but you don’t notice too badly how they interconnect.

It took me about 1 week to watch the 11 sides Due to my time available.

I don’t believe this version is on DVD or Bluray at all, so if you can pick this set up.
It’s a real treat if you love the Godfather films as it ties everything together.

I got this in a CL lot of 35 for $30 a few months back. I plan to watch it in its entirety once classes are done in a few weeks, in one sitting.

Bedsores, here I come!

I remember first watching this great epic story. Proud owner here, got it mint sealed years ago for about 50USD
it's nice to see 'the family" evolving trough the years.
I do prefer my Remastered ac-3 Godfather box set but that one is way too short
3-4 hours running time , I enjoy each Godfather episode again and again and again....
picture quality for the 1901-1980 box isn't top notch but it does get better towards the final chapter(s).
Many people argue about Part 3 being a bad movie...
I always found it had it's "moments"
I can watch the final "pacino cry" on the stairs over and over again. It's a monumental scene IMHO

yes, i remember the 3rd being bad or not as good etc. when it was first released.
the picture quality is not super mint, there are scratches and damage, but not as bad as some other LDs i've seen of older films.

i did notice some cue markers / reel changes in the first two films, not all the time but some are present.
when watching all 3 at once like this you can enjoy the 3rd film, if i were to see them over time i wouldn't like the 3rd as much.
no real outstanding scenes like sleeps with the fishes that are just classics in the first two.

Thanks for the review. I think that this title is arguably top of my wishlist.

The open matte on this release is excellent. I use this version if people are complaining about bad pan/scan (which normally is very bad).
I have a lot of version of the Godfather - but this one is my favorite and I watch it ones of twice a year.
