Lion King, The (1994) [2977 AS]I haven't seen this in years. Never have I been a Disney fan.
But my sister is.
So when I saw this for cheap I figured, why not?
Picture: Theatrical 1.85:1, unedited. Stunning picture with only hints of occasional edge enhancement, in short one of the best looking CLV titles ever. I was blown away in many places, and am now wanting to try the CAV box.
Audio: Dolby surround and ac-3 discrete. I have only sampled the discrete, but to these ears the Surround is perfect. Great low end, nice soundstage, in short this sounds exactly as I remember early 90's theaters sounding, and a time I truly miss. The film was reputedly mixed in Dolby LCRS so I don't think a remixed discrete will do it justice.
Overall: at a dirt cheap price, this is a must. These Disney films work incredibly well on LD, and it is your only chance to see them in their intended form short of a used print.
5/5
My sister on side breaks (in a droning voice): "and now the dramatic context of the movie must stop for 'dis wonderful format"
Me: "hey, this is supposed to happen behind the scenes with reel changes. Oh wait, you're spoiled with DCPs."
