For Database info..it is CLV and audio tracks are simply Analog and DDigital

(1993 LD) Movie is 60 min and 20 min of extras (81 min) like director interview , adverts and opening with music.

CRT: FD Trinitron 25

A really good Laserdisc edition ; aspect 16:9 . Analog colors and lights are absolutely natural , soft and delicious in this animation movie
Not being a high grade player this CLV LD smearing is invisible the 95% of the movie..very very clean
Movement is perfect and resolution is on par with some early DVDs

The movie itself shows animation way better than the regular tv series ; not boring with lots of funny moments starred by Chibiusa and Bunny Tsukino :]

When you say aspect 16:9, do you mean to say that this Laserdisc is anamorphic?

I think the movie was screened in cinemas in Japan, it shows thin black bars on a 4:3 crt for example the Star wars episode I shows big blacks bars on the same crt.

Sorry dont know exactly what is anamorphic

No, letterboxed to 16:9 or thereabouts. Japanese animated theatrical films are usually in either 1.66 or 1.85 aspect ratio.

I've actually been looking for this disc for a while. Thanks for the review - nice to know it looks good! :D

Funny thing, I have the Pioneer R1 DVD of this movie, which is also letterboxed, and it looks like absolute macroblocky crap on my LCD. It would be hilarious if this LD looks much better than that!

I'd not be at all surprised. Many of the early Pioneer DVDs, especially, were very poorly mastered.

Just an update - I did finally get a copy of this disc, and I can confirm that it looks very nice... and it beats the pants off the old R1 DVD in both image and sound quality. :lol: Probably the only version that would beat it is the remastered Japanese R2 DVD, and the eventual Blu-ray release.
