Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) [PILF-2555] I got around watching the first 20 mins today. I think it is pretty edge enhanced. It's been a few years I last watched T2 but I somewhat remember how it should look like. Its got that super35 look but I think a bit more. I have the other SQZ version and MUSE version too. I remember the MUSE version was EE'ed. I have to compare these to the French HD-DVD which is free of dnr and ee. Other than EE, everything looked fine. No aliasing, colors are good. I didn't crank up the sound but it is safe to assume it's the same good old ac-3 mix on the other LD releases. I used to have the first print DVD which had the css mix. It's ported from an early laserdisc. That's the one to look for the best audio mix for T2. I will update when time allows to compare the editions I have. |

The first Squeeze (non-THX) is ghosty and looks poor in motion. The Pioneer box set (Director's cut) is highly prefferable unless you want the AC3 soundtrack. Haven't seen the THX Squeeze though. French HD-DVD is the best as you say, even better than the Japanese BD even if the differences aren't massive. http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleiche/m ... #vergleich |

Bguzman - yes that is the one. The audio mix is excellent on that release. Picture is as far as I remember isn't anamorphic but letterboxed like lds. Nissling - I think there was a 1st print Japanese blu-ray which is oop now. It had the highest bitrate encoding. Don't remember if it was free of dnr or ee. |

I doubt the THX SQZ LD of T2 can compare with the HD-DVD, but maybe it can compare to some of the early letterbox non-anamorphic DVD releases like the one you mentioned with the CSS mix. Would be interested to see how you compare the MUSE Hi-Vision version to the HD-DVD. |

I watched the sqz thx ld again today. There is definitely excessive EE there. Some scenes are really disturbing. I generally use darbe darblet in hd mode or pop mode (40 or below setting) on ld. On ths particular ld, darbe made it much worst. I feel the thx engineers messed this one up. I will watch the other sqz version tomorrow. I think this version is either the same or better(can't be worse). Note: I think thx/sqz disc has the css mix. I don't have the ld/dvd that has the css mix and been a while I watched them. But it did feel like the css mix. |

I dug up my BD, which was issued by Studio Canal back in 2008 and not very surprising it's the same transfer as the French HD-DVD. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Terminator-2-Bl ... rminator+2 In other words no need to get an HD-DVD player to watch Terminator 2 in its current best pq. It's the director's cut and features a 5.1 DTS-HD MA track if that's of interest. I think it looks alright, though it has a kind of soft look to it. A short comparison (color difference are due to VLC capturing and aren't visible during playback). Thanks to Caps-A-Holic for HD-DVD capture. French HD-DVD: ![]() UK Blu-Ray:

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) [501804] I have the german steelbook of T2, which has dts-HD Master 7.1 & Headphone Surround as audio options (in english). I never saw the Squeeze LD's, but I have seen the MUSE version, and back then on my 1080i CRT I did not notice any excessive EE. Might be more noticeable on a large Plasma/LCD tho. |

I actually think the German steelbook has DTS-HD HR but that's some minor differences for sure. |

German Steelbook is DTS HR and the video is more compressed than the french release. French release is the best version. I don't know for how long these hddvds will work is another question. |

French HD-DVD is the best, along with the first UK BD by Studio Canal which has the exact same transfer and master. Though the French release can be considered better as it has both cuts, whereas the UK BD "only" has director's cut. |

T2 is all from the same garbage, master. The Jp blu is the best encoded followed by the UK, but crap in... |
