Ocean's 11 (1960) [11158 A/B]

Having never seen the film all the way through before, I was staggered at how low-key and slow moving it is. Practically an hour passes with no real development, the heist is extremely simple and downplayed and few if any Pack members really make an impression onscreen. So little plot is established that even the smallest morsels are direly needed.
But it is worth it for the end shot which is just staggeringly good.

The transfer is the usual half-assed Warner disc. Blown out contrast and very noisy looking with just an overall unpleasant video noise ridden scope image without much resolution. I had to readjust my set constantly to tone down that contrast and brightness. underneath that it is a good looking print with great color--one that looks like they actually did replicate it right on Blu-ray.
Sound is PCM mono and has a great deal of depth, almost stereo like in places. Sadly in one reel it has high end damage.

Basically a 1960 Vegas travelogue with stars. Good for the time warp factor and the closing shot.

Film: 2/4
Video: 1.5/4, recalibrated: 2.5/4
Sound: 3/4

Would you say the remake is better?

Has this got any present reel change over dots on it? Not seen the film since aired on tv some 30 years ago.

Though I haven't seen it on LaserDisc, I actually really enjoyed this film and the dynamic between the actors. I feel that the remake is awful, being far too over-dramatised and convoluted, and generally making no sense and containing all the usual dull cliches.
