Shadow, The (1994) [PLFEB 33391] Although this film was not a smash hit when released I always thought it was quite good. Today I am writing about the UK PAL version of "The Shadow" from 1994 (PLFEB 33391). The video quality is nice with very saturated, vibrant colors with no hint that I can see of chroma noise that I can see. The sound is powerful and full-bodied and will blast you out of the room, while the dialogue remains audible at all times. A nice film that I never seem to tire of watching. Not the slightest trace of rot or video defects on this version of the laserdisc. This was a title that I used to have on the American NTSC version but I think this PAL release looks much nicer. The side break is well done too. A disc that I have never regreted importing and one that reminds me why I treasure my laserdiscs so much. A highly recommended title! |

Beautiful movie that I fully discovered on LD. One of those misfires nobody remembers that you can't forget or dislike. The DTS is superb but I would like to get the standard release to check out the Dolby matrix version. |

Yes, it's really a shame this film is not better known than it is. I was talking about this title with my brother in the States a while back and he said he had forgotten all about it and was going to have another look. The 1930's art deco sets and the atmosphere of this film is what really does it for me. I had read that it was scheduled to have had a sequel and merchandising was all set too, but after the dissappointing box-office sales the plans were shelved. If you have never heard the "Shadow" radio shows that inspired this film, those are worth checking out. I believe they are available for free online now if you do a quick Google search....some really good stuff! |
