Nausicaa is very good. One of my favourites.

Been watching Versailles no Bara. Really enjoying it tremendously. Could end up being a personal favorite. Just keeps getting stronger as it goes.

I’ve been watching a lot of 80s Transformers anime lately. It’s so bad…but I love it. I also bought the Transformers manga that ran in TV Magazine, amazingly now translated into English and sold as hardcover. The plots are so simplistic…basically introduce a toy and put a Japanese value lesson in there, 8 pages, done and dusted. Repeat again next week. Amazing art, pure fun.

Been binging on the Space Cobra TV show, watched it a few times now and may have my fill.
It fills in the gaps that the move is missing but I think its one that will go after this final watch.

Just thinning my series collection, need to re-watch GE999 again, watched the first 2 or 4 episodes after Gypsy mentioned watching the bluray
but stopped due to irl things.

Both of these are definitely a good time.

What format are you watching? I know you don't normally go for blu rays.

DVD for Cobra, bought it after my regret of selling the LD box I had.

GE999 is LD only, watch it raw or if I can find subs online, but I sort of know the story from the many times I've read about it, watched the movie
and watched the series on public TV during a Japanese 2hr deal on PBS with subs back in the day.

I have a soft spot for Toei animated Transformers season 1 and the movie.

Season 2 is a mixed bag. Once AKOM takes over its absolute garbage, which is season 3.

I'd love to see season 1 get an HD redo from the original film masters. And they would have to use the tape masters to fill in the scenes with incomplete animation, or incorrect takes that exist on the workprints.

I'd also love to see Golion/Voltron in HD but its never gonna happen.

Finally getting HD Robotech instead of Macross is a slap in the face though. I want Macross. I should import the Blu-Rays but those prices are ouch. Its nice i can finally afford Orguss though and its actually HD masters which Japan has had for years now in North America, had the DVDs horrible composite masters.

I missed Animeigo's Megazone 23 have to wait until they reissue it for general release.

I'm going to watch Metropolis by Rintaro, and Arcadia of My Youth haven't watched those in a while.

I don't know if it's an "instead of" situation; all we know is that Robotech is coming out on blu-ray first. I'd be very surprised if Macross, DYRL, and the rest weren't also coming down the road.

I love it when Americans say, “Now I can finally see Flashback!” as if it wasn’t already one click away on YouTube. As of it wasn’t released already on VHS, LD, DVD, and 1080p Blu-ray. As if it’s ever really going to look any better than the LD since they lost the master anyway.

These circles fans talk themselves into are ridiculous.

A friend introduced me to the Saiki K. anime show.

Only 3 seasons but it's quick and funny.
Reminds me of the Lamu/Urusei Yatsura kind of humor/jokes.

Just watched A Silent Voice at a friend's house and... man. This movie f*cked me up. It hits like a ton of bricks. I don't think any other movie has done this to me since Grave of the Fireflies.

This is a really important film.

Speaking of movies I should have watched already (even more so), just saw Castle of Cagliostro (Discotek's UHD). Fun movie! Miyazaki does wonderful work with European settings; which reminds me I should watch Kiki's Delivery Service again. Unfortunately, the noise reduction on the UHD is pretty heavy, but I understand that Discotek had to use what Japan gave them. At least the color's nice.

Yeah I read a recent twitter thread about Japan and UHD anime releases. I'll just be sticking with regular blu ray.

I just learned both this and the Ideon sets are actually region free, or at least A/B.

I might actually pick them up in the near future. I already bought Criterion's War & Peace after discovering that, too, is A/B.

...at least the later pressings, apparently some retailers, especially Amazon, still has the A-locked copies in stock. And guess where I bought mine? :silent:

All Criterion U.S. Import blu-rays I have are region A locked.
Without a single exception.
Have they announced that they will make all discs Region B compatible, or are you talking about U.K. releases?
Interesting side note: Out of all japanese blu-rays I got (around 100 I assume) only two are region A locked.

Apparently War & Peace was initially released coded to Region A and while they got the rights to release the film in the UK as well, the BBFC demanded censorship cuts they found unacceptable so they apparently just made later US pressings dual region. There's apparently a couple of other Criterion discs like this but I forget what they are. Dunno why they don't do this with all the titles they have the rights to in both regions with otherwise identical contents, like the Showa Godzilla set; Arrow does this all the time.

Anyway there are both A and A/B copies of War & Peace in the wild.

hope you are well also. it's been a while.

Did you ever see GiTS Arise?

I think there might be too much Ghost in the Shell so I just stick with the manga and the 2 movies though having said that I wouldn't mind a sequal to Innocence
