signofzeta wrote: There is also a the CLV version of the “Perfect” version (has colorful full sized new art). It’s probably the same price or more than the CAV version since they seem to have made a million copies of that box. It’s more convinent to watch but you really have to have a copy this movie in CAV. You just have to. It’s a gold mine for frame by frame maniacs. Yes I believe the image is the same but the still step is pretty amazing, unfortunately it suffers from the improper 2.3 and you get some jitter unless your player has the extra field still step for CAV.

Estimating the weight at 1kg (could be more) I'd be looking at $17-30 before any domestic shipping charge within Japan. Not too bad really.

Well there will be a flood of DYRL on ebay and other marketplaces very soon. Wonder which 1984 version it will have. Theatrical with black credits or with the flashback credits

I’m puzzled why this doesn’t cost more… Maybe I’m wrong. “This set includes two versions of the film: the 1984 Theatrical Format and the 2016 Complete Edition. ” Taken as described “1984” means no concert ending and a different sound mix (I think?). Also, as for why it doesn’t cost more, I just realized while this is much cheaper than the Hybrid Blu-ray was it doesn’t have Flashback so they can sell that for another 6800 later. They’re going to need some kind of AI thing to make a 4K Flashback. It was edited on video so they can’t really do a rescan, there is no film master. If the original elements still exist they could recreate the cut in 4K…and then charge 9800 for it again like they did in the 80s.

I just got it, and the 1984 option stays on black after "A one-two!" and the credits start rolling a few seconds later, which I assume matches how it went in theaters. (I'm not much of a Macross scholar, so I was never sure if the theatrical end credits had the same song as the later concert version, the answer to which seems to be "yes.")

Great, another reason to keep the reissue on LD with the added ending of the flashback ova.
