I'm referring to the anime film:

Is the Laserdisc any good and worth getting over the Blu Ray? Any differences etc?

I’ve never seen the Blu-ray but unless they really really screwed it’s up then it’s better than the LD. The LD is fine for the time but this movie is SO gorgeous you really want the best version possible.

I only ever owned the LD and the DVD, when I had both at one time the DVD had a cleaner image and the LD was shifted to one side or matted a little too much?
Can't remember now.

Other issue is that I believe the credits were changed from black screen with Japanese credits to black screen with English credits.
I didn't even know there was a bluray yet but since you focus on bluray stuff I'm sure its better than the DVD with possible correct end credits.

So in all if you are a completest then get the LD and don't ask  but I would skip the LD as I've been doing that recently just going for DVDs
since they are cheaper, I'm older and don't have the patience to watch as much anime without English subs.

The LD does have a really cool insert, it was a fold out calendar? But very cool.

Considering when the DVD was released I’d avoid it like the plague. It’s possible the BR is overly scrubbed or flawed in some way too, I’d research that. The movie itself deserves HD. While seriously flawed, the cel work is beyond belief and LD can’t do it justice.

The same is true of Angel’s Egg. Nobody ever really saw that movie until the HD version came out.

Interesting points to consider. Thanks both!

I think I'm more worried about if the Blu Ray has been messed around with. Or have things been censored or removed or redone etc. Anything that would detract from the original intended film. As anime Blu Ray titles tend to command prices that only people who wear crowns can appear to afford to buy regularly, I figured I'd ask for informed opinions on what version is best. :D

The movie is occasionally very violent but I don’t think they’d censor it.

WOW I feel like I should buy the cheapie Korean DVD release and if the quality is fine I'll sell off my DVD.

Didn't realize these were selling so high, 60-100 time to cash in I guess......

There is always the risk of them changing stuff on newer releases, I was perfectly fine with the LD until I got to side by side with the DVD.
I think this is a major factor, we are fine with it until we can compare side by side these things.
