I've read rumors about anime LDs (specifically, ones containing Japanese audio only) that contain English closed captions. Are these rumors true? If so, let's start a list here.

Also, do any contain English subtitles?

Memories (1995) [BEAL-926]
There's a bunch of bilingual discs with captions though.

Thanks for the information, naiaru!

I don't like most anime dubs, so I prefer Japanese audio with English subtitles. Naturally, I'm looking to get this experience on LD, so please update this thread if you know of any others.

There is already a thread here someplace that discusses this. I don't remember what it's called though.

These sorts of titles exist, but it's a very short short list. Off the top of my head:

The expensive Ghost in the Shell box
Spirit of Wonder (only the reprint, as its essentially a Japanese release of the Animeigo version. It's dubbed on one side, original on the other side, has CCs)
At least one of the Tenchi Muyo in Love releases. I have the fancier CAV AC-3 one with the extra gold disc. It has CCs.

I think those might actually be it.

Also: the previously mentioned Memories.

It sure would be nice if Jin Ro had CCs, but I don't think it does.

Well, with the bilingual discs you could just switch to the Japanese version and use the captions, but is it that you want the Japanese audio to be digital?

I'd love to have Dangaio LD, like the one I watched back in college. I seem to remember it was dubbed, or subbed, because I understood what was going on.

I'm not aware of a US Dangaioh LD and the JP ones certainly didn't have a dub or subs. Its possible someone was subbing it live, the more hardcore people did that at clubs and such. There would have been a PC nearby.

I recall the cover had the robot, and the women pilots...if there was the man too, i can't recall. Maybe it was all Japanese, and my suite-mate just explained the story to us. I recall it was just the most awesome robot anime I saw at that time.

Dangaioh was released on VHS with English subtitles (inconsistent from one episode to the next) by the short-lived Books Nippan venture, which also had Gunbuster.

thank-you. has there ever been a DUBBED version of Dangaioh? I saw some bits on Youtube, and...i seem to recall it being ALL girls. but definitely psychics, because we joked about them being Psy-Chics.

I'm pretty sure there was and it was legendarily horrible.
