Hey. I just bought an Animeigo Laserdisc release of Urusei Yatsura: The Final Chapter (sealed) for $35.95 on Ebay. Was it a good buy, or not? Thanks. Also, Happy Easter!

IMO being "sealed" ads nothing to value if you plan on watching it anyway. The jacket can still be folded and the disc can be all rotted to heck and back. Last month I bought a sealed copy of Babe: Pig in the City (1998) [LD 83607-WS] and when I opened it I discovered it was smashed. I have no idea if it was damaged on its way to me or in a warehouse 12 years ago. About two months ago I bought the US versions of UY movies 2 and 5 for $15 on eBay, FWIW. Jackets weren't perfect, but discs were.

BEAL-921 but that film and box are amazing, i have one if you bought it sealed you may have paid a little too much, but i don't care about it being sealed. so don't be too upset, you will get the original Japanese soundtrack that is not on the DVD and the original colors that the enhanced DVD version has.

If a person is going to drop a lot of cash on an anime LD, Ghost in the Shell: Premium Box (1995) [BEAL-921] would be a good contender. Its not valuable on the market or anything, but its extremely kick-ass so you aren't going to feel like you wasted your money. Its incredibly nice. If you wait around you can probably get it for $20, but its a steal at $200.

Yeah, but it was more of a "rebound" purchase. I had set aside money for Green Legend Ran Box Set (1992) [PILA-1130A] which I had been wanting for a long time. I ordered it from Da Don's, but he didn't actually have a copy in stock and suggested Ghost in the Shell since it was on my wishlist. I agreed, but felt disappointed thereafter. But I agree: film and box ARE amazing!

You probably got hosed on it since it was from Da Don, but as long as it wasn't more than $100 I think you did OK. Yeah, Ran's animation was much lower quality than GitS, but I enjoy the alternate-world/search for water films (Now&Then Here&There, Avenger). GitS is the only disc I've bought from Da Don's because the prices are pretty high. As pricey as he is, the service is phenomenal.

I love "Now and Then, Here and There" and I was super happy when I found the LD's of that show (must have been 10 years ago or so I think). I don't want to annoy people, but I think that GitS is highly overrated. I've watched it maybe 10 times or so, and the more often I saw it, each time I thought "wow this is pretty boring compared to other stuff", especially compared to the GitS TV series, the Blu-Ray and the 2.0 re-release are not making up for it either. I got so annoyed with it that I sold my Premium LD-Box at some point.

I watched the first episode or maybe two of Now and Then, Here and There and I don't remember much except for a little kid getting the living s**t kick out of him the entire time which I found disturbing. It was like Green Legend Ran with way more child abuse.
GitS is many things to many people. When it became a hit in the 90s the majority of people that fell in love with it only liked it because of the extreme violence, sorta-nudity, and high budget animation. Fans of these aspects of the movie are bound to be bored by, or oblivious to, the cerebral concepts. IMO Stand Alone Complex season one is better than the first GitS movie, but the movie is still great. It managed to be heady high concept scifi anime like the stuff from the 70s and 80s where scifi concepts and trippy visuals and ideas leave you thinking about the movies years later...and it did this in 1996...as a roadshow release, with no model kits or action figures to satisfy the sponsors. I'm not sure this has happened once since then.

The LD came today, it's in very decent physical condition, but the disc has a small amount of Laser Rot. I made a video of it here: http://youtu.be/gPLXH6T55OMI start playing the disc at 4:50.
