Would like to chime in on Patlabor WXIII (Movie 3). That was the first Patlabor title I ever watched, as found it used locally on the cheap back in the days when anime was still quite expensive. Personally think it's a good stand-alone sci-fi movie as it doesn't seem to require the viewer to know anything about the franchise to watch it.

Also... for anyone else who missed out on all or part of Sentai/Maiden Japan's Armored Trooper VOTOMS Blu-Ray releases last year, they're doing a limited production release of the "Complete Collection" in August. Kind of sucks as I only needed OVA Collection 2 and was hoping they were going to reprint the BD sets as already released, oh the joy of getting to re-purchase the whole series </sarcasm>. On the plus side it's only $45.99 on pre-order during the sale going on right now, which is only about $8 more than what Ebay sellers want just for the one set I missed out on last year. <sigh>

But the soundtrack though. It is a thing of beauty!

well, the original Japanese OST is easily one of the very best in Anime, at least IMO.

the localized UK one, well, while i've seen it talked around some, i've never actually personally heard it, so i dunno.

in any case, i'm fairly confident that, for me at least, it is no contest at all for the utter perfection of the JPN original...

The UK soundtrack is pure ultrawonderment.

And yes, Kawajiri has never made anything crap.

Glad they are doing this, even if the release is not the best in terms of quality.

Just started watching Galaxy Express 999: vol.1 Megalopolis Box [LSTD01211]

Here are some screen shots from episode 4, little poor quality as its from my 503 and there is some smear and I don't
have color or brightness correct IRL.

Just watched Crusher Joe The Movie on BD. You just don't see animation like this anymore outside of the highest budget movies.

I'm glad I waited and hadn't got the DVD previously. It looks fantastic. There is a lot of action stuff and it's very well animated too. The cars crumpling at the start stood out. The story was good enough.

It's kinda like how Game of Thrones wowed all the people who had never watched Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

well, Video Girl Ai was just as good as i recall it being, -a very fine, "Chobits" -style wish-fulfillment fantasy-romance-
and, CYBER CITY OEDO; well, every time i've seen that one, it just totally floors me. it honestly is one of the very best OVA series there is, IMHO.
terrific animation, superb OP/ED songs (JPN ORIGINAL ONLY) and remarkably involving storytelling.

i've seen plenty of underwhelming Anime disappointments, and it is one hell of a breath of fresh air to to remind oneself
that there were Anime out there at one time that could actually be taken seriously,
kicking all manner of a** and taking all of the names, all the while making it all look only too easy.

C.C. OEDO... this one is right up there, with the likes of SPACE ADVENTURE COBRA T.V. and MACROSS D.Y.R.L.

As ridiculous and fun as that anime looks, I still think this is the definitive way of enjoying the Japanese perspective of the power aesthetic of the American police.

My theory is that’s where he is. He had all that burger crap from multiple different places delivered to the donut shop so that as soon as he’s done the donuts will be there for his desert. The things cops used to be able to get away with...

Clearly not NYPD, we don't have Carl's Jr in NYC never did and they don't eat Mcdonalds, they eat Burger King.

He's got some Taco Bell there too? Niiice. I love America and American food. It's my dream to get there again as an adult and just eat my way across the country.

That mag has respect tho. Articles on LAPD, Atlanta and Philly SWAT teams. Cool s**t, for Japanese maniacs only. I loved picking up random weirdo mags (possibly including p0rn(??)) and a couple of beers from the 7-11 late at night after striking out at the Shibuya clubs. Some of my favorites were "Gaijin Criminal File" and "Train Maniac" mag

Looks like he visited Sbarro as well? At least the cup on the left looks like it is from there but just out of view.

How the hell he is drinking root beer I don't know. Liquid Germolene.
