There's one on Yahoo: https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/au ... 1055944627I've been mildly interested in checking out the series for years now since it's in Super Robot Wars Compact 3, but dunno if I'll ever get around to watching the series or playing the game. edit: Hmm, I must've been thinking of Mechander Robo, since Gordam has never been in SRW it seems. I wonder why I first wanted to check it out now.

https://myanimelist.net/anime/7551/Gowapper_5_GordamI sort of remember seeing the toys back in the day but it was a lesser company, not Popy, bandai or takara so then you had budget toys and who cares cartoon. I thought the football one was different? There is also the one I saw on LD only when I was ordering from Japan but it was super expensive and about computer chip robots? The box was silver with pcb grids and a character that looked like a robot in football gear but the name is never going to come into my head now

I'm guessing the football one is UFO Senshi Dai Apollon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qdt9jv94hhsSome of the designs are kinda appealing but I doubt I could watch 47 episodes of this, at least not sober. I can enjoy 70's mecha series like Gaiking and Kotetsu Jeeg, but stuff like Apollon is animated on the cheap with mostly still frames.

When it comes to robot shows you never know what you’re going to get plot-wise. Combattler V really surprised me with its storyline. Garuda is a truly tragic character and I’ll never forget his “discovery” no matter how many robot shows I see. Then there is the Go Nagai stuff which is so wacky you never know what’s going to happen other than it will be crazy and violent and there will be b**bs. Then there is Golion, which is violent dumb garbage who’s only positive side is that it sold a really cool toy.

I think Daiapolon kind of falls under that first category, in the sense that there's a story development that makes an antagonist a lot more sympathetic all of a sudden. I didn't have high expectations for it but I'd say it's one of the better ones I've seen. The fact that it's pretty short helps a lot. I know there's a sequel series which I haven't been able to track down (and even if I could, it probably won't have any subtitles). Also I completely forgot about that incidental music that sounds like a blatant riff on "Apache" by The Shadows, although I'm not sure which is more blatant, that or the Oxygene IV riff in Xabungle! Compare that to something like Ginguiser which I ended up just watching raw and it still made me go "I can see why this got canceled". rein-o wrote: There is also the one I saw on LD only when I was ordering from Japan but it was super expensive and about computer chip robots? I could sort of see the football gear semblance.

No I know that one, I'll have to search when I have time and try to find again. The LD set was stupid expensive from Japan and it was sort of like a micro man type series but newer from the mid or late 80s. I'd know it if I saw it but can't remember the name. Main guy was in a white outfit with helmet and face showing sort of like a football helmet. It was listed on MAL but I'll need to find it first before I can find the name

I’ve seen at least one episode of that…dubbed even. you're probably thinking of the MAXTER, from G GUNDAM? https://gundam.fandom.com/wiki/GF13-006NA_Gundam_MaxterDo you know who you are talking to? rein-o wrote: Main guy was in a white outfit with helmet and face showing sort of like a football helmet. I can enjoy 70's mecha series like Gaiking and Kotetsu Jeeg, but stuff like Apollon is animated on the cheap with mostly still frames. That is it! The Wiki says, "The anime was loosely based on the manga Galactic Warrior Apolon by creator Tetsu Kariya (which also created the manga Oishinbo) and illustrator Shigeru Tsuchiyama (serialized in Weekly Shonen King, which also serialized the first run of the Galaxy Express 999 manga). That manga featured a 15-year-old orphan called Akira. Although there are UFO scenes in the manga, it did not have the American football or super robot elements, and the enemies were demons with the power of the 108 Stars of Destiny.[1] It was unusual for the football element to be added, since the sport was barely even recognized as an amateur sport in Japan in the mid 1970s. It may just be a coincidental blend to add variety to the super robot genre." Hilarious. Get this guy to direct a Stephen King movie! The version I saw must have been this one: http://www.anime-games.co.uk/VHS/anime/shadow_world.php

Currently watching "King's Raid" and it is kinda boring I must admit. I'm about half way through now and was hoping it would get better (let it be humor or even fanservice at this point) but NOPE. I ended up liking it quite a bit. A shame it didn't get one more season to finish the manga material as that is all it would have needed. I did burn through the manga chapters not covered and it had a satisfying ending. I set some money on fire and got all of Monogatari on bluray. Starting with Bakemonogatari even though it's a rewatch since it's been so long. Planning to go through it all and everything after Nisemonogatari will be new to me. It's as good as I remembered. There seems to be a lot of contention in regards to watch order. I'm just going with the light novel order.

Caught Perfect Blue in a theater the other month. The production was rougher around the edges than I remembered (first watched it on a computer monitor), but the movie itself was even more chilling and brilliant on rewatch. That put me in a Satoshi Kon mood, so I watched Paranoia Agent for the first time. Incredible show, especially as an anthology but it all comes together well too, even if I think it starts stronger than it finishes. Superbly demented, frequently funny, and always poignant. It's painful to think of how much more of Kon's anime there should have been.

Watched a fair bit since I last posted
MADOX-01, lots of Monogatari (most recently finished Tsubasa Tiger arc), Lupin III vs. Detective Conan TV Special, Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! (just season one so far, which was great), Yona of the Dawn (woefully incomplete, a shame), Oreimo, Twelve Kingdoms, Haruka Nogizaka's Secret, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? season 1 + Sword Oratoria, Orphen (original of course) and Yamato 2199.
Haven't finished everything listed yet. I would recommend Yamato 2199 strongly. This is how you do a remake. It's a high cut OVA that surpasses the original series handily. One of the biggest reasons for that imo was the decision to expand the cast.
